She nodded toward the couches, and they sat down.

“I just wanted to talk to you about last night. I feel awful.”

“Okay. Why do you feel awful?”

“I feel like I led you on, unintentionally.” He leaned forward and clasped his hands in front of himself. “Kailynn, you have to know how much I’m attracted to you. I haven’t felt like this in years.”

Her face softened. “I understand what happened. I know we can’t do anything.”

He nodded. “We can’t, but I seriously want to.”

“Me too,” she whispered.

“As soon as this is over, and believe me when I say I’m trying to make it go as fast as I can, I want to take you on a date.”

A soft smile touched her lips, and she relaxed a bit. “Really?”

“Of course. I truly wish I could now.”

“Would you… would you prefer I find another lawyer, so it isn’t a problem?”

He scooted closer to her and took her hand in his. “No. I need to be your lawyer so I can make sure you get everything you deserve out of this.”

“It kind of puts us in a weird position, huh?”

“Unfortunately. But it won’t be this way forever.”

Her fingers traced his palm as they sat in silence. “Thank you for coming to talk to me.”

“I wanted nothing more than for things to be right between us. I’m sorry I hurt you last night.”

She smiled up at him, their lips mere inches apart. “It’s okay. I understand.”

Her big, brown eyes gazed back at him, and he resisted the urge to kiss her. It would be his undoing, and then they would have a repeat of the previous night—something he didn’t want to do to her again.

Her eyes flickered down to his lips, and he swallowed hard, his body coming alive. It didn’t take much, but he knew he was close to breaking all of his rules… again.

He cleared his throat and took a deep breath, putting a few inches between them.

“I’m sorry, beautiful. I’m having a hard time.”

She smirked and her eyes flickered down. “I can see that.”

He had pitched a tent and hadn’t even realized it.

“I should go.”

“Are you sure you don’t want help with that?” She looked up at him and her tongue darted out, wetting her lips.

His throat grumbled while picturing her lips wrapped around his cock.

“You’re killing me.”

She giggled. “I’m sorry. I had to.”

He took a deep breath and walked to the door before he did something he couldn’t take back. “On that note, I really need to go.”

“Have a good night, big boy,” she said, her tone seductively low.
