He included a GIF of a man winking.

Sorry if I’m interrupting your evening. I was just hanging a picture.

His response was immediate.

Not interrupting at all. Do you need help?

She debated. She wanted his company, but she hesitated. He had made little effort to talk to her over the last few weeks. And after they had sex, she had expected something. He clearly didn’t feel the same for her that she did for him. Even after all of that, he seemed to be flirting now. It didn’t make sense.

I don’t really need help, but wouldn’t mind the company if you aren’t too busy.

She wasn’t sure if she made the correct decision in sending that message, but she was lonely. She also didn’t want any awkwardness to come between them now that she wouldn’t be moving. And she’d be lying to herself if she said she didn’t want to see him.

He didn’t send a text back, but knocked on her door only a few minutes later.

She pulled it open.

Damn, he looked good.

He wore a pair of sweats that clung perfectly to his hips. A t-shirt hugged around his fit physique.

Her eyes roamed the length of his body and when she got back up to his face, he smiled.

Damn. Way to ogle him, Kailynn.

She blushed and opened the door wider, letting him inside.

He stepped in and held up a bottle of red wine. She laughed and pointed to the already half empty bottle sitting on the coffee table. She grabbed a wineglass out of the cabinet and poured him a glass from her bottle.

“We’ll open mine next.”

“Are you trying to get me drunk, Mr. Romano?”

“Perhaps.” He smiled and her heart fluttered.

Stop it, Kailynn. He isn’t interested.

She wasn’t sure what to say, so she led him into her new office to grab her glass of wine, which still rested on the table. “This is my new workspace. I think I am done with the banging.”

He looked around the room. “It looks good. If you decide you need more shelving or anything else hung, I can help you.”

Hung. He was hung all right. She bit her lip to keep from making any embarrassing remarks, but she couldn’t help her eyes quickly dropping to his crotch before traveling up the length of his body. She flushed when he caught her watching him. Again.

Busted.

He remained quiet as he watched her.

When she felt like she had her mind slightly under control, she nodded.

“Thanks.”

He turned back to the shelving, inspecting what she already hung. He bent forward to look at the shelves attached to the wall.

“How did you mount these?”

She choked on her wine and had to set the glass down before she dumped it with her violent coughing. He stepped over to her and pat her back.

I’d mount you.
