She turned toward Abi, tucking her legs under her. “I guess I kind of want to be close to Chase. Is that stupid? I mean, who’s to say anything will even come of us, especially since he’s been MIA.”
“No. It’s not stupid. I get it. That’s why Logan and I spend so much time together. We don’t really want to be apart, so we spend the night at each other’s places when possible. And what do you mean? You haven’t seen him?”
She shook her head and picked at a throw pillow. “No. He’s been busy with work, I guess.”
“You guess?”
“That’s what he said.”
“And you don’t believe him?”
Kailynn sighed. “Yes. No. I don’t know.”
“Kailynn, he’s not Drew. He’s a good guy.”
“I know.” Kailynn pushed out her lower lip in a pout. “I wish I could fast forward and see what decision I should make. See if it’s all worth it.”
Abi laughed and patted Kailynn’s leg. “Don’t we all.”
The silence passed between them before Kailynn clicked on the TV, turning on an old movie.
“Hey Kailynn? You know you’re welcome to stay here as long as you want, right?”
Kailynn smiled at Abi. “Yes, thank you. I appreciate the offer, but I need more space to have my office here as well. You letting me stay here as long as I have has been incredible. I’ll be forever in your debt.”
“That’s what friends are for.”

The next day,Kailynn stumbled out of her room and into the kitchen. A fresh pot of coffee waited on the counter. She loved having an early riser as a roommate. It made things convenient.
She poured herself a mug and turned around to find Logan and Abi sitting on the living room couch.
“Morning,” she mumbled as she took her first sip. The warmth seeped into her body and she felt like it was already working its delicious magic.
“Morning,” Logan said. He glanced over at Abi and they exchanged a look.
“Morning. Hey, we want to talk to you,” Abi said.
“Uh oh.” She felt like a deer in headlights, and her heart picked up its pace. Just last night Abi was telling her she was welcome to stay as long as she wanted, but maybe she was having second thoughts. Maybe Abi needed her to get out sooner rather than later so she could have her studio back.
Kailynn looked between them. But if she wanted her studio back, that would mean that her relationship with Logan wasn’t going well.
She sat down on a chair near the couch, preparing for bad news, while her mind took off in several directions with where she would go and at which apartment building she would try to get a lease. The last one she looked at was her best option, but it was also a good half hour away.
“It’s nothing bad, don’t worry,” Logan said.
Abi continued, “We were talking, and Logan asked me to move in with him.”
Kailynn’s eyebrows furrowed. “Oh. That’s great!”
Her stomach plummeted. She was going to be homeless! Now she really needed to find a place before Abi gave up her lease.
Wait! Maybe I could get this place if there isn’t a waitlist. Her eyes widened as she looked back at them.
“Do you think you could talk to management about me renting this place? I know there’s probably a waitlist since there aren’t any vacancies, but maybe you could put in a good word.”
Abi shook her head. “It’s unnecessary. My lease isn’t up for another eight months. So...” She glanced over at Logan and then back at Kailynn. “I was wondering if you would sublet from me, so I can move in with Logan.”
