But before anything else could be said, Logan called over that the food was ready.

Chase swung his legs off of his lounger, stood, and then offered a hand down to Kailynn. She took it and he helped pull her up.

Two men walked into the pool area at that moment and Abi waved at them.

Kailynn shielded her eyes from the sun and looked toward the doors. A smile lit her face. Chase didn’t recognize them, but he hadn’t expected to. He didn’t exactly spend a lot of time in the complex, so if they were tenants, it was unlikely he’d know them, anyway.

The way Kailynn smiled over at them sent a surge of jealousy through Chase. After the other night, she knew he was trying to keep it professional, but part of him still wanted her to be cozy with him. He knew he was pushing the boundaries, but he couldn’t help it. He wanted her.

It hadn’t occurred to him she may not want to wait and might date other men in the meantime. He wasn’t available, and he couldn’t expect her to wait around for the case to end.

Chase watched the two men make their way over to Abi and hug her before shaking Logan’s hand.

Knowing that having to stay away from her was only temporary made him that much more eager to finish her case. But despite how fast he worked, it all depended on the court dates and if they were going through mediation. His hands were tied at this point.

Hands were tied. He almost groaned at the thought of tying her up and doing dirty things to her. He shifted uncomfortably and positioned himself behind a chair. His board shorts were suddenly snug, and he didn’t have to look down to see why.

As soon as Kailynn approached the two men and hugged them, Little Chase deflated. It wasn’t a quick friendship hug—it was a hold-on-tight-and-squeeze-you hug.

“Chase, this is my friend Al and his boyfriend Brian,” Abi said.

Chase’s head snapped toward Abi.Thiswas Al—Abi’s close friend and boss. And Al’s boyfriend. Relief flooded through him. He stepped out from behind the chair and stepped over, shaking hands with the two men.

“It’s nice to meet you. We’ve heard so much about you,” Al said.

“Likewise,” Chase said.

“Everyone, dig in before the burgers get cold,” Logan said.

Chase stepped back while everyone dished up, letting his racing heart relax, knowing that Kailynn wouldn’t be remotely interested in either of these men. Or at least if she was, he knew it wouldn’t pan out. The thought of her dating someone else still struck a chord despite him not expecting her to stay single for him.

The six ofthem sat around a table near the pool with their burgers, chips, and drinks. Despite the conversation going on around him, his eyes continually strayed toward Kailynn. The feel of her straddling him constantly entered his mind, and he had to consciously think of something else or spring an erection right there in front of everyone… again.

He turned his attention to Abi, to dampen his lust for Kailynn, who was telling a story. Seeing Kailynn in that swim suit was enough to get him going.

“You know what we should do?” Abi asked.

Everyone looked at her, waiting for her to continue.

“All right. I guess I’ll just tell you if no one is going to guess.” She laughed briefly. “We should play chicken!”

Kailynn just about choked on her bite of food, and her red face turned toward Chase to gauge his reaction. He looked back at her.

He only smiled. He certainly wouldn’t hate it.

“Sounds fun!” he said. He maintained eye contact with Kailynn and winked. She noticeably swallowed in response, and he had to refrain from laughing. He would love every second of Kailynn’s legs straddling his head. He only wished she would face the other direction.

“You all know we have this in the bag, right?” Al asked, gesturing between him and Brian.

“Just because you’re all—” Abi gestured between Al and Brian “—male, doesn’t mean you’re going to win.”

“Doesn’t it though?” Brian titled his head to the side with an eyebrow raised.

Abi matched his eyebrow with one of her own. “Game on.”

The men jumped into the pool, and Chase looked back to where the women were standing. Kailynn had pulled Abi aside and was saying something, her eyes wide. He smirked and looked back at Logan, Al, and Brian.

“Dude, we’ve got this,” Logan said, nodding toward Abi.
