“I understand.”
He cleared his throat. “About the texts, I will gladly take care of it.”
“What if he doesn’t want to get a lawyer?”
Chase shrugged. “He’ll still have to have all communication go through me. You don’t have to worry about it.”
A visible weight lifted off her shoulders, and if it were possible, the worry lines on her face faded slightly.
“Thank you, Chase.”
“You’re welcome.” He smiled at her and wanted so badly to reach out and swipe some hair off her forehead, but refrained. Instead, he cleared his throat and looked back down at his list.
“So there are various things I’m going to need from you to be able to value the company to see what it’s worth. I’ll need your financial statements and the copies of the paperwork from when you created your company.”
She pulled out a notepad and pen from her purse and wrote those down.
“Okay. I’ll do my best to get those. Drew was in charge of the financials and bookkeeping, so I’ll have to see if I can find them. I think I have a copy of the start-up paperwork somewhere. I’ll look for it.”
“Great. In the meantime, I’ll contact Drew and ask him to go through me from now on for all communication, and I’ll find out what he’s looking for with the split from the company.”
She nodded and put her notebook back into her purse.
“Thank you so much, Chase. I really appreciate the help.”
“It’s my pleasure,” Chase said. And he meant every word.

Kailynn sat in the spare room of Abi’s apartment, which was normally Abi’s paint studio. Abi and Logan had spent most of the last few days moving Abi’s studio over to his house so Kailynn could take the spare.
The room used to be filled with finished paintings from the last several years, but ever since Abi set up an online store, she had been able to sell a good portion of her inventory. Currently, she was rebuilding her stock for a local craft fair she planned to enter for the first time.
After much persuasion, Kailynn, Logan, and Abi’s co-worker and best friend Al were able to convince Abi to try out the craft fair scene. She started at fairs out of town since she figured it would be an embarrassment and didn’t want anyone she knew to see her. But after her sales skyrocketed, she broke down and got a booth for the local fair. Now that Abi spent more of her time at Logan’s place, it made sense for them to move her studio to his house. Plus, he had designed a room specifically for her in hopes of her spending more time at his place.
Since Kailynn now had a place to temporarily call home, she spent the time unpacking her boxes, something she should have done several days prior. She wasn’t entirely sure she was going to stay with Abi in the long run. Since she knew Abi was using both bedrooms of her apartment, she didn’t want to impose. Logan was the one who suggested Abi move her studio over to his place, and Abi agreed immediately. Kailynn suspected they were both looking for a reason for it to happen, and now they had one, which made her feel a little better.
Her mind drifted to Chase and she wondered what he was doing. It had been a week since their appointment and she couldn’t get him off her mind. Aside from seeing him occasionally in the parking lot, they hadn’t spent any time together. All of their conversations had been about the company. The last time she saw him intentionally was when she dropped off the paperwork he requested, but she had caught him just as he was rushing off to a meeting, so it was brief.
He’s your lawyer. He’s not interested. She twirled a lock of her hair. But why does he have to be so damn beautiful?
Her company had basically come to a standstill since she and Drew had split up. While she still worked on items independently at Abi’s, and now her place, she hadn’t been posting them online to sell.
Despite not having any contact with Drew, they were still fulfilling orders being made. All contact was currently being run through Chase and the lawyer Drew reluctantly hired. But business was slow lately, so she didn’t have an excuse to call Chase, which was slightly disappointing to her. She half hoped Drew would contact her just so she had a reason to contact Chase.
As if Chase’s ears were burning, her phone lit up with a text from him.
I have new information to share with you. Would you like to meet for coffee?
Sounds great! Right now?
She bit her lip, waiting for the response. Was that too eager?
The little dots indicating that he was typing danced across the screen.
Sure, we can do that. Meet at Daisy’s?
I’ll head that way now.
