“Why do you think I’m here?” she said.

“You will stay?”

She nodded.

“That’s what I planned to do.”

I wanted to just pick her up, throw her over my shoulder, and go back to my bedroom so I could finally claim my little mate, but it wasn’t so simple.

“What do you want us to do about your brother?” I asked.

She seemed to think it over for a little while.

“I can get a kidnapping going,” I joked.

Valeri rolled her eyes and pushed me gently.

“No!” she said.

I chuckled a little, and she smiled.

“I don’t want him to get hurt. Promise me, Gabriel, that no matter what, even if Damon wants to fight you, you won’t fight back! Promise me!”

I sighed, but I knew I could not deny her, her wish. I could never deny her anything.

“Very well. I promise, but he will look for you if you don’t tell him anything.”

“I will tell him,” she said. “Just … not right now. I want to enjoy our time together.”

“And how long is that?” I asked.

“I don’t know right now,” she admitted.

I sighed, not sure this was a good idea, but then she leaned closer, wrapped an arm around my neck, and kissed the corner of my mouth slowly.

“Please, don’t make me call him just yet.”

How could I tell her to call him when she was begging me so sweetly?

“You put me under your spell, sweetheart,” I said.

Chapter 25

-Valeri-

I knew it was crazy.

I knew I shouldn’t have come here without telling my brother, but I couldn’t help myself. I really did want to be with Gabriel. He even admitted to me he had a bad past, but we all had our pasts. I wouldn’t judge him for it. No, I would judge him for who he was now, and I truly hoped he meant it when he said he had changed because I had had quite a lot of bad luck in the past. I didn’t want my future to be the same. Damon would find out though, and then I knew I would have to tell him the whole truth, but I just wanted to enjoy my freedom a little, without having to think of my brother and what he might do when he learned Gabriel and I were mates.

“So, you’re not going to call him?” I asked.

Gabriel shook his head.

“It’s up to you, sweetheart. He is your brother,” he said. “Just be prepared for when he finds out because he will. He will probably cut my head off.”

I shook my head and smiled a little.

“I won’t allow him,” I told Gabriel.
