“You were ready to kill Lara’s stepdad!” I said.
“He was a piece of shit!” Dominic said. “Damon is good.”
“He is smothering her!”
“We all have flaws,” he said. “But Damon is my friend, and you will not win Valeri over by killing her brother.”
No, I already knew I wouldn’t, but I still didn’t see much of an option here. If Lara couldn’t convince Valeri to speak up against her brother, then I might just go insane, and if I went insane, then Damon was dead.
“Listen, just give me a chance,” Lara said.
“I already said I would, but if you don’t succeed.”
“No killing!”
“Fine! Just kidnapping then.”
“No!” they both said again.
“What then?!”
“No killing and no kidnapping,” Dominic said.
“You kidnapped Lara!”
“I took her with as protection,” he said.
“No, you took her because you couldn’t leave her alone,” I corrected.
Dominic narrowed his eyes and shook his head.
“She came willingly in the end.”
“Only because I planned to run away,” Lara added.
Dominic turned to her, and she just shrugged innocently.
“What?!”
“Not helping! I am trying to make sure he doesn’t make a big mistake here,” Dominic said.
“Oh! Yes … Eh, no kidnapping,” Lara said, but only a second later she winked at me.
“Lara!” Dominic said.
We both chuckled, and I knew Lara wasn’t being serious. She didn’t want me to kidnap Valeri, but she loved to joke around with me, and I had to say it did bring a smile to my lips.
“You need to be smarter,” Dominic said and pointed at me.
“Smarter than you?”
Dominic rolled his eyes.
“Don’t make a huge mistake that might cost you your mate,” he said.
I sighed. He was right. I had to be smart about this because Damon wasn’t just a nobody or just an obstacle. He was Valeri’s brother, and she would hate me if I ever let anything happen to him. What the fuck did I do?
