“We aren’t really strangers now, are we?” he asked.

“But we are,” I said.

“We wouldn’t have to be if you would give me a name,” he said and took a step closer.

It was only a small one, but I saw it. My eyes darted to his feet and then slowly ran up his body, all the way to those magnificent dark eyes. They were hypnotic, it was the only way to describe them, luring you in and keeping you there in the darkness, but it didn’t feel cold or alone. No, it felt safe. Why did he make me feel that way?

The wind suddenly shifted a little, and his scent was suddenly carried to me. It was dark and musky, his very own, mixed with whatever cologne he used. It made my stomach tighten and my heart started to beat faster. What a strange effect he had on me, I thought, but I slowly took a step back. He noticed that and smiled a cruel smile, as he shook his head a little and waved a finger in the air.

“Don’t run,” he said.

“Why?” I asked. “You are a stranger. I shouldn’t get too close to you.”

“Just give me a name.”

“You go first,” I said.

“Something tells me you already know,” he said and stepped closer, which made me take a step back.

“Oh, so popular you are,” I teased.

“What are you doing to me woman?” he growled lowly. “Why do I like you being a little mean?”

“Maybe you got mommy issues or maybe daddy issues,” I teased him.

He chuckled, taking another step forward, and I moved back.

“Probably both. Now give me a name.”

“No,” I said.

I normally would never be so blunt, but I couldn’t help myself. I wasn’t scared to say no to him. I wasn’t even scared to run. Something told me to run just because … I knew he would follow.

“I will get it out of you,” he said.

“You will have to catch me first,” I said.

“I will gladly do that too,” he told me.

I smiled, grabbed the front of my dress, and then turned on my heel, running through the big garden. I knew he would quickly catch up to me, there weren't many places I could run, and I wasn’t sure what way went back to the party. So, I ran the way I had come, but I would soon meet a wall if I didn’t take another turn. I could hear him right behind me though, and as I decided to go left, he suddenly appeared, coming out of the darkness like he was a part of it.

I let out a small scream, but then laughter left me. What was wrong with me? Why did I like this? I turned around and ran the other way, but as I took another left turn through the garden ending up by a big fountain, he appeared again.

“How do you do that?” I asked as I saw him appear on the other side of the fountain.

He shrugged, as if it was no big deal, and then started to walk towards me, but I chose to walk the other way, both of us eyeing the other.

“Done running?” he asked.

I shook my head.

“Not even close. It has been a long time since I was out running like this,” I said.

I didn’t mean it as anything bad, but Gabriel narrowed his eyes, not really liking to hear this. Did he not like to hear I had been chased or that someone was chasing me like he had, probably with the same intention? The truth was I was scared the last time I had been out running like this, but I hadn’t thought about it when I said those words. All I meant was I hadn’t felt as free as I did right now.

Suddenly, though, he surprised me and ran through the water in the fountain, not even caring he got his suit wet and then jumped down in front of me. It took me so much by surprise, I didn’t even think of running.

“There, you are caught,” he said, smiling a little.
