“Tell me,” I said again, as I turned to her.

“Don’t do it, little wolf.”

“I …”

“Lara!” Dominic said.

“But—”

“Just tell me, Lara,” I said.

“I …”

“No, don’t give him what he wants,” Dominic said, grabbing Lara’s hand and pulling her attention to him. “It won’t do him any good.”

“How the fuck do you know that?” I asked and looked at Dominic.

Dominic sighed and looked at me almost tiredly.

“Why can’t you just give him the time he needs? He would have done it for you.”

“Because he is my friend.”

“Yeah? Then respect his wishes,” Dominic said.

I shook my head.

“Time alone isn’t really what he wants,” I said.

“But it is,” Dominic said. “Time alone is something he actually likes.”

“Of course, you think so.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” Dominic asked.

“Guys, let us—”

But I didn’t let Lara finish.

“It means that you don’t really know him. I do!”

“Oh, sure,” he said. “What? Because I’m the king, I can’t know my friend too?”

“I didn’t say that. I saidIknow him better.”

Dominic just shook his head at me, disappointed.

“I can’t believe you right now. What the hell has crawled up your ass and died?”

“Well, I’m sorry I couldn’t just throw my mate over my shoulder and take her away,” I gave back. “Someone stopped me.”

“You know how Damon feels about you! I only tried to stop you two from killing each other!” Dominic said.

“But Valeri is MINE!” I yelled.

The room turned silent, and it was like the wordmineechoed in the big dining room, making everyone so damn tense.

“You shouldn’t have stopped me,” I said more calmly.
