“I can’t!”
“Yes, you can,” he said. “You got out tonight.”
“And Damon found out! He will be extra cautious now!” I told him.
Gabriel just smiled.
“You will find a way, or I won’t leave.”
“Gabriel!” I said harshly, not wanting Damon to find him here.
“You heard me. I want you, and even if you don’t want me yet, I will make you see we are mates.”
“Please, could you stop saying that?!” I said.
“Why? It’s true.”
I shook my head.
“It can’t be …”
“But it is,” he said, and his eyes looked at me with such tenderness, I didn’t know what to think.
I truly wanted to believe it was true because having a mate … that was truly a gift. No one would want you more, and no one could love you more than a mate, but it was sadly not so simple in our time to find one, and I just found it very hard to believe that one of the last hybrids could ever want me.
“Say you will meet me.”
“Gabriel …”
“He is coming closer,” he taunted me.
“Fine!” I said, finally giving in, only because my brother was clearly coming this way.
He must have seen the light coming from the kitchen, as he went to check the doors were locked.
“But you need to go! Now!”
Gabriel smiled and nodded, finally releasing me. I turned around and opened the door, and pushed him outside, he didn’t let me close it right away. Instead, he placed a hand on the back of my neck and pulled me close for a demanding kiss.
“Remember,” he said and pulled away. “If you don’t come to find me, I will find you.”
“Just give me a few days.”
“You got three.”
“Three?!”
“That’s how long I can wait, and it will be damn torture for me,” he said.
My heart picked up the pace from his words. Torture, he said. Really? I told myself not to get ahead of myself. I couldn’t believe his words. At least not yet.
“Three,” he reminded me before he kissed me again and then finally released me, only to disappear into the darkness, hopefully going home now.
“Val?”
I looked over my shoulder, seeing Damon watching me concerned.
“Is something wrong?” he asked.
