“I want her, Lara,” I said. “Like I have never wanted anyone before.”

“Then earn her!”

“That isn’t really how we do it,” I said, a dark smile spreading on my lips. “That is how Dominic did it.”

“And look how well it went between us,” she said.

I looked her up and down and then turned my eyes to Dominic further away before I turned to her again.

“I think it went quite well,” I said before downing my drink.

I ordered another one right away. The guests were being sent home, not our staff, so I could sit here and drink all night if I wanted to.

“In the beginning, I wanted nothing but to escape him!” she said.

“But you ended up with him in the end. I guess I will just have to be patient then.”

She shook her head at me.

“We will solve this without kidnapping or death,” she told me.

I shook my head this time.

“I don’t think Damon will give me much of a choice,” I said.

“He just needs to see you are a good person. That you can be trusted.”

“We have known each other for hundreds of years now,” I said and turned my whole body to her. “He still doesn’t trust me.”

“He is just looking out for Dominic,” she said. “But he will see it.”

I continued to shake my head.

“No … he won’t.”

We looked at each other for a while before Dominic came over to us.

“Good, you’re still here,” he said.

“I won’t be for long.”

“You can’t go over there,” he said. “We will find a way to talk to Damon about this.”

“Oh really?” I asked sarcastically. “Shall I have my guns prepared for that talk or my knives?”

“Come on, Gabriel. We will find a way,” he said and placed his hand on my shoulder, but I shrugged it off.

“He won’t listen,” I said. “And once he knows she is mine; he will do everything in his power to keep her from me.”

Lara and Dominic exchanged looks, and both of them seemed to know that that was exactly what was going to happen, but they wanted to believe they could convince Damon to hand over Valeri to me. I knew he wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t walk around acting like it. So, instead, I downed my drink again, and then I started to walk away.

“Gabriel, where are you going?”

“Out!” I just said.

“Don’t do anything stupid!” Dominic yelled after me.

I didn’t answer though and just continued outside getting in my car.
