“Would need me to?”

I nodded.

“Maybe I just want your support,” I said.

“When have I not supported you?”

“Gabriel …”

Damon sighed irritated and looked away for a moment before he turned back to me. He grabbed one of my hands and squeezed a little.

“I don’t want us to fight anymore. I don’t want you to lose your appetite and not be able to tell me why. I want us to be able to talk again,” he said.

“I do too.”

“Then tell me what is going on, Val. Please. I promise I won’t do anything bad,” he said.

“You won’t get mad?”

“I will try not to,” he said.

I looked at Damon, suddenly feeling hopeful. I wasn’t sure if I should really tell him, but at the same time I didn’t want to feel so alone anymore, and the words just seemed to find their way out on their own.

“I’m pregnant,” I said.

Damon seemed to freeze. His shocked expression never changed, and for a moment I wondered if I might have given him a heart attack.

“Damon?” I asked. “Damon, say something.”

He didn’t. He just let go of my hand and then stood up before he walked out of the door.

“Damon!”

Fuck, what had I done?!

Chapter 46

-Gabriel-

When the doorbell rang, it was the last person I had ever expected to see on my doorstep. I was sure he would never come back here, considering what had happened and because I lived here. He probably wanted to keep as much distance between us as he could, but here he was. Damon stood in front of me, looking like he was ready to try and kill me again, but what could I have done this time? I had not spoken to Valeri, since she went with him.

"Can I help you with something?" I asked.

"I have come to drink."

"Oh, that I can help with," I said.

I stepped to the side and let him in. I was actually just waiting for him to wrap his hands around my throat again, but he didn't. Instead, as he came inside, he turned to me and then, without warning, punched me in the face. I groaned, as my head whipped to the side, but he didn't follow the first punch with another. He just corrected his clothes, looking more relaxed now.

"That was better," he said. "Now I want that drink."

He continued further into the house, and I just looked after him very confused. I closed the door, and slowly followed him, knowing there wasn't much else I could do. I found him in the living room where I was practically living now, just drinking my sorrows away. Damon had already found a seat and was pouring himself a drink. I went over to him and sat down beside him. I was sure he was going to tell me he wanted to drink alone or wanted Dominic here instead, but he didn't say anything as he sipped his drink.

"Are you looking for Dominic?" I asked.
