“I understand,” she said. “But you can’t forget to take care of yourself.”
“I know …”
“You do look a little pale. Do you get enough sleep?” she asked.
I shook my head.
“I haven’t been able to sleep probably since leaving,” I said.
“Oh …”
“I know, it sounds bad, but I kind of need him in order to get a good night of sleep. I have no idea when it became that important to have him with me,” I told her.
Lara smiled.
“I know the feeling. Food doesn’t taste as good unless Dominic is near me. It’s like I can’t relax if I don’t have him with me. I never liked to depend on anyone, but here I am,” she chuckled.
I laughed a little too.
“But I wouldn’t change a thing,” she said.
“You really love him.”
She nodded.
“I do,” she said. “And I know you love Gabriel too.”
“I don’t know how it happened so fast,” I told her.
She smiled.
“You never do.”
I smiled back at her.
“But you do love him,” she said.
I nodded.
“I do,” I said. “I can’t help it. It is this mate bond. It messes with your head.”
She chuckled and nodded.
“I can only agree, but then why don’t you come home with me?” she asked.
I sighed.
“I can’t,” I said.
“Valeri …”
“I can’t leave my brother, and … and maybe I’m scared,” I told her.
“Scared?”
“Scared of his feelings for me might just be true,” I said.
