I shrugged a little.

“Perhaps.”

“No, I am pretty much done with you,” he said.

“Completely?”

He nodded, and I sighed.

“Even as a friend?” I asked.

“We were never friends. I don’t have friends.”

“Ace …”

“What?” he asked. “Is it a lie?”

“Yes!” I said. “It is!”

“How so?”

“Even if you don’t have me, you have Dominic and Lara!” I said.

“They are not my friends. I don’t have friends. They are just people I live with. For now,” he said.

Who was this guy? Had I done this to Ace? Had I transformed him into this hollow shell of a person?! I couldn’t believe that was true, but here he was sitting in front of me, telling me he had no friends, and that he and I were not even friends at any point. We were just fucking.

“That’s not true,” I said.

“But it is.”

“Ace, don’t say that! You have friends, don’t lose them because of me!”

“You think this is because of you?” he asked and smiled coldly.

I nodded.

“Don’t flatter yourself,” he said.

“Then what is it then?” I asked.

“This is who I am,” he said. “I don’t have friends. I don’t have a family.”

“But you do!”

He shook his head.

“I never did,” he said. “I’m a killer. Killers don’t have friends.”

”You’re not that person anymore,” I told him.

“But I am. I always was. Even when I was fucking you,” he said and stood up.

“You’re wrong,” I said. “Don’t do this.”

“Do what?”

“Shut everyone out, just because of something I did to you!” I said. “I have ruined enough people. I don’t want to ruin you too!”
