“So, what are you doing here?”

Ace seemed to think about it for a while but then shrugged.

“I’m not sure.”

“Maybe you do care a little,” I said.

“Probably not,” he said.

“You’re really that mad at me?” I asked.

He shook his head.

“I’m mad at myself.”

“What?”

“I should have known,” he said. “That I could never win you.”

“Ace …”

He held up his hand.

“Don’t.”

“What?” I asked.

“Apologize. I don’t want to hear it,” he said.

“But I am sorry.”

“It doesn’t matter,” he said.

I sighed.

“I guess it doesn’t. It is just words,” I said.

He nodded, agreeing with me, as silence slowly fell over us again, and we just sat there, neither of us knowing what to say.

“She isn’t coming back,” I whispered.

“No, she probably won’t,” Ace said.

I looked at him a little annoyed, but he shrugged again.

“But you never know.”

“She will always choose her brother, and I can’t even blame her for that. I wouldn’t want my own sister to choose someone else, so I get it!” I said.

“Then I guess you need to let her go,” he said.

I looked at him angrily this time.

“And go back to you?” I asked. “Is that why you’re here?”

He narrowed his eyes a little.

“You think I would want you back?” he asked.
