I looked at him shocked and then walked closer.

“He doesn’t deserve your hatred!” I shouted.

“But he does! He deserves it all!”

“No, you are so caught up in the past. He doesn’t deserve you acting like this!”

“He is a bad person!” he shouted.

“You are not the judge of everyone!” I told him. “You don’t get to decide who is evil and who is good!”

“You aremysister!” he said.

“Yes, and so be mad at me!”

“What?”

Damon looked confused at me.

“Ilied!” I told him. “Not Gabriel!”

He glanced at Gabriel, who was still sitting on the ground, wiping the blood from his bleeding nose and looking really beaten up.

“I even lied to him!” I said.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because I knew how you would react. I knew what you would do if I told you the truth!”

Damon looked at me angrily but then turned away, shaking his head a little.

“So, it’s true?” he asked me and looked at me again.

I took a deep breath, knowing I couldn’t keep it a secret anymore.

“Yes.”

“You’re mates?”

I nodded.

“We are,” I said.

Damon shook his head and laughed a laugh that made it clear to me that he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“No.”

“What?!” I asked.

“No, it’s not true!” he said.

“Damon—”

“You’re not that animal’s mate!” he shouted. “I won’t allow it.”

“It’s not really something you can control,” I told him.

Damon walked closer to me, grabbing my arms and getting his face closer to mine.
