“I want you to be able to trust me,” he said and tightened his grip on my hips. “I want you to know you can count on me.”
I looked him in the eyes, studying him a little, and I was so surprised to hear him say all of this. Where was it all coming from?
“Gabriel …”
He looked down, and I could see how hard it was for him to bare himself like this, but it meant everything to me to hear and to see. I placed my hand a little lower on his jaw and pushed a little upwards, so he lifted his head, looking at me again.
“I know,” I said.
“You have been through a lot.”
“It’s the past,” I said.
“It still haunts you,” he said. “I can see it.”
I sighed, but then pressed my forehead to his.
“I’m here with you now. You make me forget,” I whispered.
He smiled a little, and we just stayed like that for a little while, just feeling each other close.
“I won’t let anything get to you again,” he whispered.
“I know. I trust you.”
His smile grew.
“Good,” he said. “I have been waiting a long time for you.”
I moved back a little, looking at him confused.
“For me?”
“For my mate,” he said. “I have always wanted to find you.”
“I can’t believe we were so close, but still didn’t find each other.”
“I guess I was looking in the wrong places,” he chuckled.
I nodded, laughing too.
“Well, you ended up being in the right place,” I said and winked.
“And you broke out of your home the right night,” he said.
“I didn’t break out! It’s not a prison!”
He arched an eyebrow and I sighed, shaking my head.
“Okay, maybe it is a little,” I said. “But Damon means well.”
“I will never lock you up.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Did you just roll your eyes at me?”
“What?” I asked.
