“It’s barely a dress,” he said.
I felt a little hurt by his words, feeling more insecure now about wearing it, and I wrapped my arms around myself.
“I thought it was … pretty,” I whispered.
“It is,” he said and took a step closer. “You look amazing.”
That made me smile a little.
“But it also tempts those who should not be tempted.”
“I’m not trying to tempt anyone, Damon!”
“I know you are not!” he said. “But I see the way the males looked at you tonight. You don’t do it on purpose, and I know you don’t even want their attention, but you are getting it.”
It was strange when he said he knew I didn’t want people’s attention, because for some reason the image of Gabriel appeared in my head. Did I want his attention? No, I couldn’t be so easily fooled. I was sure many wanted his attention, and it was easy to get for a few minutes, but I didn’t want minutes.
“You should have told me …” he said.
“You wouldn’t have let me come.”
“No, but I could have set up a meeting with you and the queen later.”
I realized I didn’t want later. It wasn’t just about meeting Lara. It was about trying to be on my own and doing something I knew I shouldn’t be doing, but if I said that out loud, I knew Damon would only get angry and talk about how dangerous and reckless it was of me to leave the house unsupervised.
“It’s okay,” I whispered, looking at the ground. “I said what I wanted to say.”
Damon looked sad, but he didn’t try to make things better by telling me we could figure something out about me leaving the house on my own, and when it had been quiet for too long, I walked away, and … he didn’t stop me.

Chapter 9
-Gabriel-
It was stupid to come here. I shouldn’t be here … I should turn around, but I simply couldn’t start my car and drive away. I just stayed parked in front of Damon’s house, knowing my beautiful little mate was in there, most likely getting ready to go to bed. I wanted to be in that bed with her, and not just to feel her soft body against mine. No, I wanted to just lie there with her, and know nothing bad could harm her, as long as she was in my arms.
Sadly, it was never going to be as easy as just walking into the house and getting into her bed. Damon was her guard dog, ready to tear anyone apart who tried getting close to her. It wasn’t just me, and I knew that, but I was someone he wouldn’t even allow into the house.
I could feel my phone vibrating in my pocket, and I knew it was Dominic and Lara wanting to get in touch with me, but I didn’t want to talk to them. I was too focused on Valeri. I needed to see her again … I couldn’t wait.
I got out of my car and found a good place where I could climb over the wall surrounding the house. I knew Damon would never allow me even through the gate, so I had to find a different way. I walked around the house, staying in the shadows until I found a glass door leading inside. I smiled, running over to the door, and pushing down the handle.
Damn … locked.
I knew I could easily overpower the lock, but I didn’t want Damon to think someone had broken in. It would only give him a reason to keep Valeri even more hidden. I was about to try and figure out which window let into her room when I saw the light inside the kitchen, which the door led to, turning on.
I moved to the wall, pressing my back against it, and then slowly peeking inside, and like the Goddess had heard my prayers my little mate appeared, now only wearing this thin little pink robe, that only covered to mid-thigh. Oh, how easy it would be to get her out of that. Her hair was a little wet, and she had removed all the makeup, but even without it, she was stunning. I watched as she got herself some water before I placed myself by the door again and knocked on the glass. Valeri jumped, dropped the bottle of water, and looked scared at me.
“Gabriel?”
Her voice was muffled a little, but I still heard her.
“Going to let me in?”
She looked over her shoulder, probably to see if her brother was anywhere near, before she walked over to me, unlocking the door. She didn’t reallysay come in,but as soon as she opened the door, I stormed inside, closing it and then turning us, so her back ended up against the door, while I caged her in by placing a hand on each side of her head.
