He looked at me shocked but then turned angry again.
“Get in the car, Val.”
I shook my head.
“Now!”
I stared at him, feeling so hurt right now. Could he not see I was tired of being in that house? Could he not see I wanted more? That I was done letting fear control me, but even though I said I was done, I still got in the car. I didn’t try and turn around and walk inside. No, I got in and sat there quietly as Damon got his car started and then drove us home.
Chapter 7
-Gabriel-
Fuck … he took her.
I was about to intervene as I saw Damon walking towards Valeri, but Dominic saw what I was about to do, and held me back, knowing it was not the right time to let everyone know who Valeri was to me. There was no doubt, that Damon would try to kill me once he figured out the truth, but watching her leave was the most painful thing I had ever tried. It really hurt watching your mate being taken from you, knowing there was nothing you could do.
“Just let her go,” Dominic whispered in my ear.
I was close to ripping out his throat for just saying that. Nothing should be allowed to take my mate from me or stand in my way to get to her, but I also knew better than to fight Damon right here.
“You know you have to.”
I watched as Valeri disappeared looking back at me and giving me a small smile. That small smile was probably the only thing that stopped me from killing her brother right here and right now. It still hurt though. I still hurt watching her being pulled away from me. After all these years I had finally found her, but I couldn’t just claim her as mine.
“What happened?” Lara asked as she came over to us.
I pushed away from Dominic and immediately went to the bar, getting myself something to drink, but the others quickly came to find me.
“I will end the party a little earlier,” Dominic said.
I shook my head.
“Don’t do me any favors,” I growled, and there was a clear bite to my voice.
“You know you had to let her go.”
“Why did Gabriel have to let her go?” Lara asked. “Why did Damon react like that? Who is she?”
“Damon’s sister,” Dominic finally told her.
“That’s his sister?!”
He nodded, but I tried ignoring them both by just drinking and drinking and drinking. It was the only thing that would prevent me from hunting down Valeri and taking her back with me.
“What happened?” Lara asked.
“It seems like Valeri is Gabriel’s mate.”
“What?!”
“What?”
I looked to my right, seeing Ace right beside me, looking at me shocked. He never showed many emotions, but right now he looked almost … shaken. I knew why even though I had ignored the reason for years. I offered him a small smile, but I knew it did not do much to comfort him. He quickly looked away and put on his well-practiced mask.
“Ace …”
But as I reached for him, he walked away, not saying anymore.
