I could see how relieved that made her feel.

“Damon didn’t threaten you?”

I chuckled a little.

“No, he only punched me, but I kind of deserved it. I did knock up his sister,” I said.

That made her laugh a little, but a few tears escaped her eyes too.

“Hey, hey, no crying. This is a happy moment,” I said.

“It’s why I am crying. I’m happy,” she told me.

I smiled and kissed her again, gently and slowly, before pulling away.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“What for?”

“For leaving you … I just … I couldn’t lose my brother …”

“I know. I understand why you did it,” I said.

“He is all I have, and I am all he has.”

“I know … You will always be loyal to him,” I said. “But I don’t ever want you to leave me again. Promise me that.”

She nodded.

“I promise. Never again.”

“We are going to have a family. You can’t just leave again.”

“I know,” she said. “I won’t.”

I looked at her almost a little skeptical, because she had already walked away once, so I was scared. I understood why she did it, but it didn’t make me feel any less worried. She saw it in my eyes though, and placed her hands on my cheeks, making sure I continued to look at her.

“I am not leaving again, Gabriel. Ever!” she said.

“Good …”

“No, listen,” she whispered. “I love you.”

I looked at her shocked.

“What?”

“I love you,” she said. “I love you so much it makes me a little scared.”

“You love me?”

She nodded and smiled a little.

“I can’t stop it. You got my heart.”

“Valeri …”

“Don’t let me go next time,” she said.
