“I …”
“Hope you’re not backing out now,” he said.
“What?!”
“Are you?” he asked.
“I … No!”
He smiled, pleased.
“Good, that’s all I need to know,” he said, as he started to walk away again.
“Wow, wow, not so fast!” I said and took two steps towards him.
Damon sighed but did as I told him before turning back to me. He almost looked bored, or like he didn’t want to answer more of my questions. He seemed like he had more important things to do.
“You can’t just come here and drop this bomb!” I said.
“Really? It seemed like I could.”
“Damon!”
“Are you in or not?” he asked.
“What?!”
“Answer the question. In or not?”
“In or not what?” I asked.
“With Valeri. Will you take care of her and the baby?” he asked.
I looked at Damon shocked, and that just made him look very impatient.
“Wait … are you saying you … accept us?”
“Never,” he said.
I sighed and looked down.
“But my sister wants to be with you, and now she is pregnant. The kid deserves their father in their life, and since you have sworn to me you aren’t playing her, what choice do I have?” he asked.
“So what? You don’t accept us but will let us be together?” I asked, confused.
Damon seemed not to really have thought it all through and needed a moment to think about my question.
“I … will tolerate you for my sister’s sake,” he said. “And the child’s.”
“You will tolerate me?” I said, almost laughing a little.
“Don’t ask for more.”
I shook my head and held up my hands a little.
“No, no, I will gladly accept it,” I said.
“Good. Now stay here. I will bring her to you.”
