“No,” she said. “I … I want to meet her.”
“Don’t worry, Damon seems distracted tonight,” I said.
“He is always busy …” Valeri mumbled.
I didn’t comment on that, instead, I led her carefully into the crowd of people, making sure to keep an eye out for Damon, while I kept us close to the walls, hiding us in every shadow I could. Valeri giggled beside me, as we hurried towards Dominic and Lara at the other end of the room. Her sweet laughter was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard, and I couldn’t help but smile too.
Sadly, our little sneaky mission ended, and we were almost at Dominic’s and Lara’s side. They were just talking together, smiling, and dancing. I looked around for Damon, before I dragged Valeri out onto the dance floor, making her twirl around once as if we were really going to join the others. She smiled and the beautiful red dress flowed around her. She was magnificent.
“And who is this?” Dominic asked, as we came in and interrupted the dance.
Dominic probably thought it was just another woman I was trying to impress tonight, yet I knew he found it weird that I would introduce her to him. I didn’t need Dominic to impress the women. I was a hybrid too after all. Both Lara and Dominic looked at us rather intrigued.
“Someone who wants to meet your queen,” I said.
“Me?” Lara asked and looked at Valeri.
Valeri smiled and did a small curtsy, which made Lara look all flustered. She still wasn’t used to the whole being-queen thing.
“It is very nice to meet you, my queen,” Valeri said.
Lara chuckled a little nervously.
“It is very nice to meet you too … eh …”
“Valeri,” she said.
“Valeri, but all that is not necessary,” Lara said and referred to the formalities.
“Sorry, it is just so … amazing to finally meet you.”
Lara smiled and then held out her hand. Valeri looked almost shocked but then grabbed it.
“Want to get something to drink with me?” Lara asked.
Valeri looked shocked but then nodded. Before she could leave though I took her arm and leaned down to her ear.
“Remember your brother is around here.”
She nodded.
“I won’t go far,” she promised.
I nodded satisfied, and then let her go with Lara. They already seemed to become quick friends, but Lara was a great person. Who wouldn’t instantly click with her?
“So?” Dominic asked.
“So?”
“I haven’t seen her around before,” Dominic said and winked.
“That is because she is Damon’s sister,” I said.
Dominic’s smile disappeared and then looked at Valeri.
“That is Valeri?!” he asked shocked.
I nodded. It seemed like Dominic had no idea too how much Valeri had grown or simply what she looked like. I thought Dominic might have seen her since Damon and he were much closer, but it seemed like Damon had even kept his sister away from him.
