“I …”

I reached for the water, hoping it would help, but it only made me feel worse.

“My lady?”

“I …”

I placed a hand over my stomach when I felt it almost do a little jump.

“Oh no …”

“What?” Dina asked.

“I … I think I’m going to be sick.”

I got up from the chair and ran past Dina.

“My lady!”

She called after me, but I simply couldn’t stop now. I ran back to my room and into my bathroom. I barely made it to the toilet, before I was throwing up, feeling like my whole body had been taken over by something evil, as I emptied everything inside of me. It was awful and it burned my throat. I coughed and coughed when there was no more that could come up, and then I simply slumped over the toilet, trying my best to catch my breath.

“Shit,” I whispered.

I sat like that for a while, just trying to get my strength back, when a thought suddenly popped into my head. I sat up straight and looked into the air scared.

“No … it couldn’t be.”

But maybe it could …

Chapter 43

-Damon-

I was busy working when suddenly someone knocked on my door. I sighed, not really wanting to talk to anyone right now. Actually, I had not wanted to talk to anyone in a while now. I just … I simply couldn’t believe the secrets my sister had kept from me. One secret, in particular, made me very mad. She had almost made me believe she had been kidnapped again, but no, she had gone off on her own! What the fuck was she thinking?!

I simply couldn’t understand it. When had we stopped being able to talk to each other? When had we suddenly started keeping secrets and started lying instead? I simply couldn’t believe we had changed so much. Valeri had always been able to tell me everything, and I had always tried being there for her … Now she was suddenly just lying to me and taking off. Why?! I just couldn’t understand it.

Knock.

Knock.

I looked at the closed office door, as someone knocked again, and I wondered if it might be my sister. We hadn’t really talked since she came home. Not a lot at least, and I knew I was at fault for that too. I was avoiding her because I just didn’t know what to say, and I simply couldn’t understand why she would lie to me like that.

“Damon, it’s me,” Dominic said.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard it was Dominic who had come to see me. I just couldn’t face my sister right now.

“Enter.”

Dominic came inside and closed the door behind him. He was dressed in a dark grey shirt and dark pants, and he carried that same power that made it clear everyone knew he was the king. He walked over to me and sat down. I was glad my friend had come to visit. I was drowning in my own thoughts at the moment, and I welcomed the distraction.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“That was what I wanted to ask you.”

I looked at him confused and he smiled a little.

“Come on, Damon, how long are you going to punish Gabriel for his old mistakes?” he asked me.
