“I can do this!” Brea boasted. “I can. Just watch me!”

“Says the woman who has a standing appointment with her chiropractor because she gets injured during sex,” Matalie reminded her.

“Fuck you,” Brea muttered as she hobbled toward the entrance with Blue a few feet behind her. “We’re doing this. It's the point of the matter now.”

“Yeah! We’re fucking doing this!” Blue cheered.

The rest of us, our shoes on now, walked back to the barrier to get a front row seat to Blue and Brea’s destruction, as good friends should. I called out a reminder, “Stay away from the wall, ladies.”

Brea and Blue shot me the bird before they pulled their gloves back on and stepped out onto the ice .

“Once they fall and can’t get up, how are we going to get them out of there?” Jenn asked. I glanced over and realized that Maylee, Matalie, Pandora, and Paula all had their phones out to record the chaos. “They should have patrols out there, like lifeguards.”

“You got my mom to try?” Sis asked as she stopped near us with August close behind.

“It was a triple dog dare,” Paula explained.

“Oh, so she had no choice.” Sis nodded slowly and then gasped when Brea started to wobble. “We’re gonna have to carry them to the car when they’re done.”

“We’re going to ride the subway and see if we can find some adventure,” Matalie explained. “Are you girls in?”

“Do we have to circle around again? Because if we do, I’m out,” August said with an exaggerated wince. “I think I broke my tailbone twice already.”

“Me too,” Sis agreed.

“They’re only doing it because they have to give up the guns they’re carrying if they can’t do a lap without falling,” I explained.

“Well, shit,” Sis grumbled as her head fell forward and touched her chest.

“I guess I’ll go another round,” August said with a sigh.

“All of you are fucking certifiable!” Matalie shrieked. “What is wrong with you people?”

“If you don’t want to go again, just give your gun to one of the Ares guys to take back to the hotel,” I explained.

“That sounds like a better plan,” August said as she clutched at the wall and slowly started inching her way toward the opening. “My ass hurts, and I think I pulled a hammy.”

“I think I pulled an everything,” Sis grumbled as she followed August. “I guess I don’t bounce like I used to.”

The women around me gasped ,and Paula exclaimed, “Oh! Oh! She’s got it. She’s . . .”

Maylee laughed. “She definitely doesn’t have it.”

“Nooo!” I heard Blue scream as Brea fell right into her and they hit the ice in a tangle of limbs.

They managed to get sorted out and then laid in the middle of the rink like starfish as people skated around them.

“Who has to go rescue them?” Maylee asked as Blue rolled over and got to her hands and knees. She crawled over to Brea and stared down into her face, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the forlorn expressions they had. “Oh look! Saint and Torpedo have got them!”

“If they can quit laughing long enough to help,” Matalie said through her own giggles.

“I guess they’re the lucky winners of the take the guns away from the felons game,” Maylee said as she leaned against the rail and wiped tears of laughter from her cheeks. “I swear, every day I spend with all of you is an adventure no matter what.”

“I’d say we have years of adventure left, but from the looks of Blue and Brea, they might have to sit a few out after tonight,” Paula said as we watched Blue start to fall again and almost take Torpedo down with her before he managed to steady them both. “They’re gonna be hurting tomorrow.”

“Almost as bad as the guys will after their golfing adventure,” I mused. “Christopher was asleep in the tub when I left the hotel.”

“Boss was on the bathroom floor,” Jenn said with a grin.
