Scarlett laughed out loud and pulled away from him. “Razor’s waiting for me. Come on, I don’t want to be late for work.” Rogue followed her, even though everything in him told him to keep her and the girls here, where they were safe. He didn’t give a fuck if no one was working in the library. Their safety was more important.
When they reached the SUV, Razor gave him a knowing look, and then smiled widely at Scarlett. “All set?” he asked her, opening the rear passenger side door for her. The twins were inside, already talking with the prospect in the front seat. Rogue sent the prospect a hard, warning glare that had him wincing and looking away.
“All set,” Scarlett said cheerfully. She looked back at Rogue and asked, “Will you be around tonight when we get back?”
“Maybe,” he said vaguely.
She nodded, but he could see that she wanted to question him. Thankfully, she let it drop and pressed up to give him a quick kiss before getting in the SUV. He leaned in and gave the girls a warning look. “Listen to Razor or I will send your asses to the convent,” he threatened.
Both girls rolled their eyes. “You make it sound like we want to be in trouble,” Win said innocently. “We’re angels.”
Rogue snorted. “And I’m Toucan Sam,” he drawled sarcastically. He looked in as Razor climbed in the driver’s seat. “Take care of them, brother.” It was a warning and a plea.
Razor nodded, face serious. “Always, brother. I’ll give you updates throughout the day.”
Rogue nodded, stepped back, shut the door, and watched as they pulled out. He turned and headed for the clubhouse where his brothers were starting to assemble. It was time to put the plan into action, because there was no way he was going to let these bastards get anywhere close to the girls.
His phone buzzed in his pocket and he pulled it out to see a text from the girls.
Wren: We have our knives with us. We’ll be safe.
Win: And I saw the gun in Razor’s waistband, so we know we have back-up.
Rogue felt pride fill his chest. As much as the girls pissed him off, they were smart, and he was damn proud they were prepared.
Rogue: Don’t stab anyone unless you absolutely have to. Unless the prospect gets fresh with you. Then go right ahead.
Wren: Maybe we want him to get fresh with us. Ever thought of that?
Rogue: More like you like to play with your food before you kill it.
Wren: (Grinning Emoji Face) Awww, look, Uncle Ro-Ro’s learning.
God, he hated that nickname.
Rogue: Stop calling me that.
Win: (Devil Emoji)
Rogue rolled his eyes and put his phone away. Something in him lightened a little bit. He knew Scarlett was armed, her gun in her purse, and if the girls had their knives, then they were prepared. Razor wouldn’t let anything happen to them, but not knowing where the traffickers were, or if there were more of them hiding nearby, made him uneasy.
There were too many variables, and it pissed him off. For a man that needed control, this was the absolute worst possible situation. But it only made him more determined to find these bastards and end them once and for all.
“Brothers, are we ready?” Savage asked loudly, the room falling silent as everyone headed into Church. They were going to go over the plan one more time, and hopefully end this today.
Once in the room, they saw Code had set up screens and videos all over the room. They weren’t leaving anything to chance. “I have comms for all of you,” Code said as he handed them out. “Keep them in, and make sure you don’t lose them because they’re fucking hard to come by outside of official channels. I have them all programmed, so I’ll know who’s where.”
“Damn, Razor is going to be pissed he missed this,” Jax joked.
“He has one too,” Code corrected, making Jax pout at the lost opportunity to fuck with his friend. “He’ll be connected and able to listen in this way if anything goes sideways and he needs to get Scarlett and the girls out of there in a hurry.” He sent Rogue a quick sideways glance, and Rogue gave him a grateful nod.
This was why he was so damn loyal to this brotherhood. They watched his back, and he watched theirs.
“Good,” Savage said, putting his in his ear. “Alright, let’s go over it again.”
As they discussed the plans and all the contingencies, determination settled over him. Especially as he looked up at the screens and saw the pictures of the men that had hurt his girls. He was going to make them hurt, and they would be begging him to send them down to the devil before he was finished.
