“Well it would bother me,” she snapped, narrowing her eyes at him in warning. “Your hand is about to get a workout this week.”
“More like your smartass mouth.”
“I hope you like teeth then,” she said sweetly, giving him a wide, toothy smile.
He chuckled slightly, but it sent a shiver down her spine. “We both know you’re not going to damage the appendage that you enjoy. Besides, you bite me, and we both know I’ll bite back. Harder.”
Scarlett shivered. She had no doubt he meant every word. Was it wrong of her to be a bit excited about it? Damn, this man messed with her head. “Rogue,” she sighed.
“Mmm, I do love when you say my name like that,” he murmured, leaning down to kiss her, his hand coming up to cup the back of her neck as he kissed her senseless. When he finally pulled away, he murmured, “I’m not planning on walking away, Scarlett. When I finally let myself realize what I wanted, I knew I wasn’t going to leave when things got tough. You and me, we’re going to be together, and I want you to understand that I’m not going anywhere.”
“Even when the girls drive you crazy?” she whispered with a small smile.
“Even then,” he promised. “Though, I’m planning on getting them back for it.”
“Don’t be too harsh,” she warned him. “And know that once you start this, there’s no stopping. It’s going to be a declaration of war for the rest of your lives.”
Rogue gave her a rare grin. This one was slightly devious, and anticipation filled his eyes. “That makes it even better. They might have had a hard as fuck life until you came along, but I’ll make sure that when they decide to venture out on their own, they’re going to be tough as nails, and any man who tries to give them a hard time will be in for a surprise.”
Scarlett chuckled. “But we’re not telling them that, right?”
He snorted. “Like fuck am I giving away my edge. Right now they probably think I'm up here spanking your ass for what they did, and they’ll be trying to figure out a way to make me less pissed. Mind games are half the battle, my little minx, and that’s what’s going to make this battle that much sweeter. Because I won’t strike now, I’ll wait until they’re good and comfortable. Might be a year down the road, but I’ll be ready.”
Scarlett rolled her eyes. Men and their plots. Oh well, she also knew the girls would always suspect him, and they would be ready too. She might just help them. After all, girls had to stick together. “Well, while you plan that, why don’t you tell me how your outing went? I’m assuming you went out to look for Slicer, Club, and the mystery woman.”
Rogue lost his easy going mood immediately, immediately returning to broody and dangerous. It fascinated her how he could switch so quickly. “We did,” he said carefully. “But we didn’t find them.”
Scarlett stepped away from him and eyed him carefully. “But you have some leads,” she assumed. He didn’t answer. She sighed. “Rogue—”
“It’s club business, Scarlett, and that means that I don’t tell you shit.”
“When it comes to me and the girls, why the hell can’t we know?” she demanded irritably.
“Because we are going to handle it. We are protecting you, and that means there is shit I’m not going to be able to talk to you about.”
“That’s bullshit,” she snapped. “This is our life, our safety. The girl's safety. I will never be okay with sitting on the sidelines and letting you take over. Acting like some damsel in distress. Or did you forget that I was the one who got us out? That I am the one who has kept them protected? Just because you have a dick doesn’t mean you get to run the show, Rogue. Your ‘club business’ can fuck right the hell off, because when it comes to those girls, I won’t hesitate to walk right over you to make sure they’re safe.”
CHAPTERTHIRTY-FOUR
ROGUE
He sat in Church, but his mind was elsewhere as they waited for all their brothers to arrive. Scarlett was pissed at him, and it pissed him off. Why couldn’t she understand? She was smart; the women had already told him they educated her and the twins on how the club worked, but she still didn’t trust him. Or maybe she did, but not enough. Not enough to step back and let him do the fighting for her.
Why the hell were women so damn complicated?
Even after he tried to explain, she had turned on her heel and walked out of his room. When he had followed her, she had gone right to the table of women and promptly ignored him. The twins had glared at him, surrounding Scarlett, but the other women had given him a knowing glance. Finally he had given up trying to stare her down and had stormed into Church.
His brothers gave him a wide berth, but he could see the curious looks from Fury and Savage. Razor sat down beside him, a break from his normal seat, though he said nothing. Rogue didn’t even glance at him, too wrapped up in his own annoyance to give a shit.
Until Razor finally said, “You know, these are the days I seriously think having a woman is nothing more than a pain in the ass.”
Rogue grunted. “You’d be right,” he muttered. “Damn woman is a pain in my ass.”
“Welcome to relationships, brother,” Fury said with a smirk. “If they weren’t so pretty and perfect, we’d never look twice at them.”
“She’s pissed that I won’t tell her what’s going on,” he growled. “Feels that since it involves her and the girls, they should know all the information so they can better protect themselves.” He sneered at that.
Savage and Fury exchanged a quick look and then Savage said, “It’s an adjustment for the women to realize that around here, they don’t run the show. Especially since we all seem to be finding strong as hell women, with backbones in spades, and a mean streak a mile wide if you piss them off. The girls will help her understand why it’s necessary to keep them out of the loop.”
