She gave a moan, an obviously fake moan, and gasped out, “But, Rogue, I need you so bad. Look how wet I am for you. Make me cum and I’ll leave. I’ll make you cum so hard, too.” She pulled her fingers out to show him her wetness and then thrust them back inside herself, moaning loudly.
“You want to cum, you best be finding someone else to help you with that,” he snapped at her. “Get the fuck out. You know the rules.”
Her dark brown eyes flared with annoyance. “But Rogue—”
“Out!” he barked.
She looked like she wanted to refuse, but the look on his face stopped her. She slowly pulled her fingers out, made a large production of licking them clean, and then hopped down off the counter. “Guess I’ll go find a real man to take care of me,” she sneered at him.
Rogue narrowed his eyes at her in warning, and he saw the way her face paled slightly and her steps faltered. “Never enter my room without permission again,” he told her in a low voice, the one that made sure she knew he meant business. “Do it again and I will make sure you never step foot in this club again.”
He turned away from her, half listening as she stalked out, slamming the door behind her. Goddamn women, he thought irritably. They were a pain in his ass and he didn’t know why the hell he put up with it. And why was he even considering going over to Scarlett’s? He definitely was a glutton for punishment, because he had his doubts that would go any better.
CHAPTERFOURTEEN
SCARLETT
She made her way into the kitchen, desperate for a glass of wine. She didn’t drink often, but after today, she definitely needed one. She had been working on her own for the past week, her boss was on vacation and the other librarians were out for various reasons. You would think that with it being summer it wouldn’t be as busy, but this week every local camp and club came in. It had been ridiculously hectic, and she wasn’t sure how she kept up, but she did.
Now, though, she was looking forward to relaxing and putting her feet up. The girls were going to a friend’s place for the night, which meant she had the house to herself. Normally, she preferred to have them around, but after this week, she needed the break.
She grabbed a wine glass from the cupboard and went to the small rack on the other wall to pick her favorite red wine. Just as she reached for the bottle, the rumble of a motorcycle filled the air, echoing around the room. She bit back a curse. Seriously, again? She gritted her teeth, grabbed the bottle, and moved back to the counter. She poured herself a generous glass. She didn’t even need to look out the window to know who it was.
She had done a lot of thinking in the past week, and she had made the decision that she needed to stay away from Rogue. He was making her feel things she had no business feeling, and making her question a lot more about herself than she was ready for. When she was taken, her control was taken as well, and she had vowed to never give it up again.
Rogue, well, he was threatening to not only take it, but completely obliterate it. She didn’t understand her attraction to him, either. They had barely spoken, and when they did, it wasn’t about who they were as people. It was normally him being an overbearing asshole, and her not giving him an inch.
Except for that night in the garage, her mind whispered mockingly. You certainly didn’t mind him taking control then.
Therein lay the problem. She had liked the control he had over her a little too much. Hell, she let him grab her throat and threaten to choke her, and she had been so utterly soaked that when she had gotten home, she got herself off in the shower. Something she hadn’t done once in the three years since they escaped.
It was like her sexual fire had been lit again, and she didn’t like what she saw in the flames. Vanilla sex, the kind of sex that she enjoyed before, wasn’t what she wanted now. No, now there was a darkness lying just under the surface that was struggling to get free. It frightened her, and until she could figure out just what the hell to do about it, she needed as much distance between them as possible.
The engine of the motorcycle cut off, and Scarlett took a deep breath. It was a hell of a lot closer than normal, so she figured he would no longer be hiding the fact that he was watching her. Well, for the neighbors anyway. She knew he was there every damn night. She had stopped looking out the curtains, and flipping him off, but it was a challenge. She spent more time wondering what he was doing out there than actually sleeping. And when she did finally sleep, it was full of dreams. Both of him, and of him rescuing her from the dark figures chasing her.
No man should be able to take over a woman’s life this way, she thought to herself bitterly. Especially not one like Rogue. The very man she should stay away from. Hell, she should just call the cops and make them arrest him. Or get a restraining order. Though something told her that neither of those things would stop him.
She waited, stomach knotting anxiously, and finally heard the booted steps on her front porch. He knocked briskly, and she stood there for a moment, not daring to breathe. Maybe if she didn’t move or speak, he would go away.
“Open the door, Scarlett,” his deep voice said loudly through the door. “I’m not leaving.”
She huffed out a sigh and stomped to the door. She would let him talk, and then she would send him on his way, she promised herself.
Throwing open the door, she glared up at him. “What do you want, Rogue?” she snapped. He eyed her for a moment and then stepped inside, forcing her to step back, and he shut the door behind him. She glared at him. “What the hell? So you’re just forcing your way inside now? Done with stalking me from across the street?”
“The girls told me you were bitchy this week,” he said mildly, crossing his arms over his chest.
That was not what she was expecting him to say. Her entire body stiffened. “When were you talking to the girls?” she demanded.
“The night they snuck out their bedroom window and came to confront me,” he answered calmly.
“They didwhat?” she barked, shocked.
“Yeah, already told them they were idiots for doing it,” he said absently.
“They’re damn lucky they’re not here,” she hissed, furious. “They’ll be grounded for a month. They don’t know you. For all they know, you could have hurt them, or worse—”
“Stop right there,” he said sharply, angry eyes narrowed on her. “You can be pissed as much as you want at me and them, but we both know that those kids are safer with me than they are with anyone else besides you.”
