Lance cleared his throat. “Well, it was nice meeting you both. Be careful, I might not always be there to catch you,” he said with a small chuckle.
“Right,” Bristol said, laughing with him. “I guess we’ll see you around.”
“Yup. Later.” Then he turned and walked into the square, wandering from table to table.
“You sure you’re all right?” Rocky asked.
“I’m sure. Although I’m guessing wheeling around the grass probably wouldn’t be smart.”
“Right. How about I walk you back to your table. You hungry? Sandra’s made some lunch boxes that I’m guessing will sell out pretty quickly.”
“That sounds great.”
“All right. I’ll get you settled with Finley and bring one to you. You and Khloe get along okay?” he asked.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t we?”
“Raiden says she’s prickly.”
“She’s not,” Bristol said, defending her new friend. “I’m not sure what’s between those two, but she’s really nice. She also seems kinda sad.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know. It’s just a feeling I get.”
“Hmm.”
“Yeah. Anyway, I’m thinking I need to get back and sit down.”
“Should I grab Doc Snow?”
“No. I’m just tired. Not used to all this walking and being upright. I obviously need to get out and about a bit more than I have.”
“Don’t rush it,” Rocky said as he turned them to walk down the skinny sidewalk next to the road and the grassy square.
“That’s what Khloe told me too.”
“She’s right.”
Eyeing the line that was forming at Sunny Side Up’s table, Bristol said, “Maybe you should get in line for lunch. I don’t want to miss whatever Sandra’s serving. I’ll meet you in front of the bakery.”
“You aren’t going to miss out,” Rocky said confidently.
“You don’t know that,” Bristol told him.
“Punky, I do. I’m not even going to have to wait in line. All I have to do is tell Sandra you’re hungry and she’ll make sure you’re covered.”
Bristol’s lips twitched. Rocky probably wasn’t wrong. Sandra had been doing her best to mother her since she’d been found. And Bristol had no problem with that. “Right,” she said after a moment.
“There are perks to having you as my girlfriend,” Rocky said, humor easy to hear in his tone.
“Seriously?” she asked with a small shake of her head.
He stopped them next to Main Street and smiled at her. “Yup.”
“Dating me to get food. Nice,” she said in a fake irritated tone.
He laughed and put his hands on her face as he tilted it up. “Not to mention, you’re easy on the eyes. And you make me laugh. And you’ve made my apartment a home.”
