“Ara! That’s not every—”
I had no idea where I was going, but my feet propelled me forward, storming down the hallway past Iaso’s chambers and stopping before a dark, wooden door. There was a dragon engraved on it, and it was burnt along the bottom, blackening the wood.
This was his room. I knew it in my bones.
Heat flushed me as rage surged again and I threw open the door. It slammed into the wall as my eyes darted around the room, searching for my target, and landed on the surprised face of Rogue.
“Ara? What are you—”
I stalked over to him. As I neared him, he opened his mouth to speak, and I reared my hand back, cracking across his cheek hard enough to whip his head to the side. My hand stung with the force.
I stepped back as he slowly turned his face to mine, rubbing his cheek with his hand, chuckling darkly.
“I take it Alden explained the bite?”
“You insufferable, arrogant, egotistical asshole!” I marched toward him again, my fingers sparking with anger.
He snatched me by the wrist and spun me around, tucking my arm behind me and wrapping his free arm around my waist. He lowered his head down to my neck as I attempted to jerk my arm free, to no avail. I elbowed him in the gut and he grunted, releasing a low laugh as he tightened the hold on my arm.
A gasp escaped me as I arched forward.
“While I do love how fiery you are, there is no point in fighting me, Ara.”
My fists clenched, nails biting into my palms, but I stilled in his hold.
“That’s my good girl.”
Embarrassment and fury lit my cheeks as my teeth gritted. He slowly slid his hand down from my waist and into the front of my trousers, sliding lower, lower… And I lost all train of thought.
“Do you not remember how good it felt?” he purred, his voice like dark red wine. Smooth and sensual. Intoxicating. “Your body craves mine, just as mine does for you.”
My head fell back onto his chest as he dipped two fingers into me, coaxing a moan. He pulled out, entering me again, and I bit back another moan, refusing to give him the satisfaction.
He lowered his head to the exposed side of my neck and lazily licked at the wound. My eyes snapped open wide and the anger returned tenfold.
How had he distracted me so easily?
Energy cracked across my fingers where I gripped his arm, spreading under his skin, and he yelped as it seared him. As he released me, I jerked away, turning to face him. My eyes fell to his arm. Black marks in the shape of lightning burned into him, spreading out from where my palm had been.
Following my eyes, he looked down and examined his arm with fascination.
“Well, isn’t that interesting?” he asked, his brows furrowing.
“Do not touch me again. Do not talk to me, or even look at me. You may have forced this claim upon me, but I will never be yours. Not in any way that matters. I will never be your mate, Rogue.”
His face was tight as smoke swirled around him.
“You would have to kill me first,” I snapped, spinning on my heel. As I strode from the room, bright, orange flames licked up the walls, clouds of black smoke spilling from the open door.
I slammed it closed behind me.
Returning to my own chambers, Iaso was seated on the bed, waiting.
“Well, hello there. Rogue found me after he left your chambers earlier and asked me to check on you. I’m happy to see you’re finally awake.” She turned to the window, watching as the storm ravaged the ocean, causing the waves to swell and crash along the shore. “Although, I’m not surprised to see that it’s raining again.”
Hurt sank in my chest.
“You knew.”
