"I guess not."
"You want her, don't you?"
I nodded.
"Then you need to do everything you can to make her yours. Take her with you. Take her to the council meetings and on any missions that aren't too dangerous, so the people can meet her too. Don't ask the council if you can claim her, just do it. They shouldn't have an opinion on this. You know why they even dragged you to that party, and that was so you could find your queen. Now you did. You found her, and if they cannot accept that, screw them all," he said, smiling a little.
This was why I had come here. I knew he could help me calm down and see things more clearly. Damon had always been a good friend since we met, and I knew he would support me.
"Why do you always make things so simple?" I asked.
"A gift of mine," he said and leaned back in his seat.
We both smiled a little.
"I still need to convince her though."
"Yes, that might just be your biggest challenge," he said. "Someone who doesn't want to be your queen. Must be a first."
I rolled my eyes.
"She is looking out for herself. She always has, and she thinks being my queen will put her life at risk."
"It will," he said. "She is being smart."
I could only agree. Lara was smart, and she was doing the right thing by looking out for herself, but I could not let her go. That was simply not an option.
"She is, but she will be my queen."
"Well, good luck convincing her, because if you can't, this fight is quite pointless."
"I know ..."
Chapter 38
-Lara-
Gabriel and I were playing a game of pool when Ace appeared. I had no idea where he had been, and I wasn't going to ask. It was clear since Gabriel didn't comment on it, that it was something that often happened, and not something that we should ask about. Ace watched us play for a while before I heard the front door open. I knew it was Dominic coming home, and I quickly passed the cue to Ace, storming towards the entrance hall. Things were different now I realized. I had made my decision. I was going to stay, and I was for once going to fight for what was truly mine. Maybe Dominic had been right. Maybe what I was searching for was right here, and I had been so busy trying to get away, that I had forgotten to look around and see what I had wanted was right here. A family, but also a home full of people who cared about each other. Maybe the house wasn't filled, but it had what we needed. Each other.
Dominic had barely taken three steps into the house when he saw me and smiled. I stopped not far from him, and he froze by the door.
"Missed me?" he asked.
He clearly did it to tease me, but I surprised him, as I ran to him, and jumped into his arms. He caught me easily and I kissed him hard, this time taking charge of the kiss and showing him, that there was no doubt anymore. I knew I wanted him. It felt so damn right, and my whole body warmed just from feeling his lips against mine. My tongue invaded his mouth, meeting his, and they both began a heated dance, that made me moan against him. After a little while, I finally pulled back, giving us a chance to breathe. He looked so surprised, that I would greet him like this, and it made me smile.
"What? Didn't you say this was always how you were going to greet me?" I teased him.
"Yes, howIwas going to greet you, I hadn't expected you to do it," he told me, sounding almost breathless.
"Shouldn't I have?"
He smiled a little.
"Oh, you definitely should, and now you have to greet me like this all the time," he told me, tightening his arms around me.
"All the time?" I asked.
"Every time I come home or when we have been apart in some way," he said and smiled.
