"I have chosen Lara, and nothing will make me change my mind."
"Don't you understand what this will cost you?" she asked.
"What it will cost me?" I repeated. "I will only gain something but getting mated to you ... it would drive me insane!"
"I am the perfect one for you!" she said. "She is not!"
"She is exactly what I want," I told her.
"She will cost you your crown!"
"So take it!" I yelled.
Arianna looked at me shocked.
"Take the damn crown. Take my damn home. I will not give her up!"
"Why are you willing to sacrifice so much?!"
"You would get it if you had your own mate," I said. "But I am not sure anyone would want to bless a bitch like you with one."
She gasped shocked at my words and then clenched her hands into tight fists at her sides. I didn't let myself get intimidated. The only power she had was from her father. She was really very weak, and it was time she saw she couldn't just come here and intimidate the next queen.
"Come to my house again uninvited and you will see even your father can't protect you from my wrath," I told her, speaking in a darker and lower volume.
She looked at me shocked and her anger disappeared a little.
"Is that a threat?" she asked.
"It's a warning," I told her. "Anyone who tries to harm my queen in any way I will see as a direct attack on me."
"People will turn against you," she said.
"I was never a very social person anyway. Let them turn. Let them see what happens when they come for me. I wasn't crowned king for nothing."
"Change your mind," she said.
"Never. Now stay the hell away from her," I told her, before finally turning away and leaving the room.
I really couldn't care less about her or the council. I would find a way to keep Lara and the crown if I could, otherwise, I would gladly throw away the crown and just keep Lara. She was all I needed now, and nothing would change my mind about that.
Chapter 36
-Lara-
There was no window in the bathroom sadly but I stayed out there for a little longer trying to figure out a way to get out. Unfortunately, other than the door we had used to get inside, it didn't seem like I had any other options. I sighed defeated, knowing I had to go back. It seemed like my plans of escaping were once again ruined. I opened the bathroom door and started to walk back, but I noticed I wasn't feeling so sad about it. It scared me a little. Only a few days had gone by, and I was already starting to feel at home among the hybrids. It was insane ...
"You're so funny!" I heard someone giggle loudly.
I looked towards the table where Gabriel was sitting and now saw he was surrounded by the human women, who had come inside not long ago. They were all laughing and smiling at him, clearly wanting one thing from him, and he was just eating it all up, not sad about giving them the attention they were seeking. I noticed though he was completely distracted. He hadn't even seen me come out of the bathroom. I looked towards the door. It wasn't that far away from him, but if I hurried, I knew I could make it there!
My feet were frozen though. I looked down at them, willing them to move, but it felt like something inside me was keeping me from moving forward.
"Stop!" I said between gritted teeth as if I could somehow command whatever it was inside of me that was keeping me trapped to listen to me.
It helped though, and I took a step forward. I kept my eyes on Gabriel and the women, as I hurried towards the door. I stormed through it, as I neared it, and then I ran. I ran and ran, not even looking where I was going. I was just trying to get away. I followed the road where cars were driving, not that there were a lot of them here late at night. It was something else to get used to, moving around in the night, but at least it made sure no one could stop me from escaping.
A big smile was on my lips as I continued to run down a small sidewalk that followed the road. I really did it! I really got away! This was my way to freedom. Once and for all I was completely free. I laughed like a crazy person, and then looked over my shoulder, making sure no one was following me.
