I took a few steps back, but he just walked past me and then through the room, before entering what I believed was a bathroom. He closed the door behind him, and then I heard the shower turn on. I sighed and fell down on the couch. How the hell had I ended up here, and what did I do now?

Chapter 18
-Lara-
It took a little while before the king came out of the bathroom, and he was only wearing a towel when he did. This was going to be torture,I thought, as I watched him walk over to a walk-in closet. I could practically see everything. His strong body rippled with muscles, covered in tattoos and a few scars. It was like a whole story was written on his back, with big lines running around and names appearing here and there, though I didn't get to study them thoroughly before he disappeared from sight. I sighed falling back down on the couch and staring up at the ceiling. What now? I was finally here, but it was not like I could just run out of the door. I wished I could, but I had to play my part. I had to act like I was settling into my new life here like he wanted. It was crazy that he wanted this. Could he not see what this would bring? Troubles. Only troubles. Why was he so set on making me his? Yes, the whole mate thing, I got it, but who honored that bond anymore? I had not seen many. Even my father was able to leave my mother.
What once was very sacred, people now pissed one and looked the other way. I heard even fewer and fewer found their other half, or maybe they were just so quick to reject it, in hopes they could make a better future for themselves. How sad was that not? Then I reminded myself, that I was no different. In a way I was just like my father, just leaving without saying anything, but I couldn't do this. Our bond was just wrong. I closed my eyes feeling so defeated and tired. Even if I had been able to close my eyes on the trip back here, I still felt ready to sleep for hours and hours.
"What are you thinking about, little wolf?"
I opened my eyes and stared right into those pitch-black eyes that belonged to the king. He was hovering over me, with one arm stretched out and his hand pressed against the back of the couch. He smiled a bit and was now dressed again, I could see.
"Nothing," I said and sat up, before pulling my legs to me and trying to create some distance between us.
He just sat down beside me making it seem like I had invited him to do so by pulling away. He reached out and touched some of my long hair, letting it run between his fingers, and I quickly pulled it away. It just made him smile, every time I fought him. Why did he find that amusing? I didn't get it.
"I can hear your mind working," he said.
"I don't know what you are talking about," I told him acting innocent, but he saw right through me.
"At least you don't seem mad about me threatening your stepdad anymore."
"Oh no, I am still mad about that," I told him, looking at him a little smug.
He sighed and shook his head.
"Well, time to get over it. There is nothing to do about it now."
"I couldn't do anything about it when it was happening," I mumbled, making him look at me annoyed.
He sighed and then suddenly grabbed my leg pulling me to him.
"W-What are you doing?" I asked, trying to lean back and make sure there was still distance between us, but he wasn't having it and pulled me onto his lap. "Eh, your highness?"
"You call me by my name, as my mate that is your right," he said and then leaned closer, burying his nose in the crook of my neck and a little of my hair.
I heard him inhale deeply, and while I told myself I should find it disturbing, it made my core tighten and I heard myself gasp slightly. I still put my hand out, resting it on his chest, and pushed back a little, just so he felt I was trying to get away, but not really fighting. I didn't stand a chance anyway.
"You will come around," I heard him whisper in my ear.
"Come around?" I asked.
He didn't answer me but left a heated kiss on the side of my neck, letting his lips linger longer than necessary before he pulled back.
"Hungry?" he asked.
"A little," I admitted.
I was really starving, but I couldn't really focus on that when he was so close to me. It was like every spot he touched on my body, he just set on fire.
"Good. Then let us get you something to eat," he said and helped me stand.
He waved me along, and I followed, going downstairs with him and into this huge dining room with the most beautiful chandelier dangling from the ceiling. Ace and Gabriel were already there, they had both showered and changed their clothes. Gabriel seemed to be chatting away, and Ace looked as grumpy as ever, not saying anything, yet continued to make a card disappear and reappear, and I looked at it quite mesmerized.
