"What do you see?" he asked me.

"A room."

"Yes, and?"

"It's a big and old living room. What else is there to see?" I asked.

"Who sits in the room?" he asked me.

I looked at him confused, but with his eyes, he urged me to answer the question, and so I did:

"Us."

"Yes, a little half-blood and a scary hybrid," he said.

I just continued to look at him confused, not sure what he meant by this.

"Is there a point here?" I asked.

"There are three hybrids left," he said and held up three fingers. "No more."

I was starting to realize what he was trying to say.

"This room," he said and gestured to it with a circular motion with his finger again. "It isn't filled with hybrids as it should be. There are three of us, and now you."

Guilt gripped me hard, as I was now understanding his words. I had often been seen as the enemy. It was no lie that half-bloods had even been hunted down throughout history because no one cared about us, and we were easy prey. We had been used and abused, but Gabriel had a point.

There were only three hybrids left. All male and no way to make more, why was that? Oh yes, hybrids had had their battles too. Trying their best to protect their own because many wished them harm. They were powerful and almost seemed untouchable. Some people didn't like that and wanted the power for themselves. Hybrids had in a way been seen as enemies as well, which was why I was now feeling so bad.

"Just be honest, sweetheart," he said. "Her words hurt you."

"I'm fine," I said again.

I couldn't show weakness. He must understand,I thought, but Gabriel just sighed, not liking I was still trying to lie my way out of this.

"You are one of us now," he said. "As Dominic's mate, you are family to Ace and me as well, and to us, you never have to act stronger than you feel. You can show weakness because we would never use it against you. Family has each other's backs."

"Maybe they do," I said. "I wouldn't know. I never really had one."

"Now you do," he said.

"Isn't that for me to decide? I haven't claimed the king, and I don't plan to," I just said and looked away.

"Don't be difficult, little queen. You are only making it harder on yourself," he said.

"Oh, and why is that?" I asked.

"Because Dominic always gets what he wants," he told me and smiled in an almost dark way. "Always."

Chapter 29

-Dominic-

I felt almost anxious. After the meeting with the council, everything in me just needed to be with my little mate. She could calm me down and seeing her perfectly all right and in one piece would also help ease this anxiety, which had taken hold of me. I needed to see if she was okay. I knew of course Gabriel would never let anything hurt her while I was away, but I wanted to hear more about Arianna's visit. I knew the council wasn't done with us at all either and that only worried me. I was unsure exactly what they would do, but I didn't believe for a second, that they would leave us alone. They wouldn't be done with us before Arianna was my queen, and Lara was far away from me.

As if we would let that happen.

My wolf was right. We would never let that happen. I would rather die than see her taken from me. My worry only made me more desperate to see her. I hurried inside the house. I had no doubt Ace was right behind me, and then I quickly went to the living room, sniffing her out, but when I arrived, I only saw Gabriel sitting on the couch, reading a damn book.
