"Learn what?"

I looked at my hands instead of him.

"To put a shoulder back into place. I am surprised a former psychology student knows how to do that."

"Took some courses," I lied, my voice failing me.

I was not the greatest liar, and under the king's eyes, I seemed to be an even worse one. It was quiet for a while, and then I heard him walk closer to where I was sitting. My heart was hammering inside my chest because I remembered what had happened on this very couch. That would not happen again, I told myself, but I couldn't help the way my blood was pumping, my skin tingling, and memories of what he had done to me, ran through my head like a filthy movie.

Suddenly the couch dipped slightly, but I looked away, as I saw him out of the corner of my eye. Yes, I would behave, but that didn't mean I had to sleep with him.

"Courses?" he asked.

"Yes."

"Can you say it while looking at me?" he teased me.

I took a deep breath, and then when I felt like I was strong enough I turned my head, but to my surprise, I found him much closer than I had expected, and I completely froze, trapped by his dark eyes, and a strange sudden need appeared. A need to get closer to him. A need to taste him again.

A need to mark what wasmine.

Chapter 13

-Dominic-

I was surprised when Lara had decided to help Gabriel, and while I wasn't much for anyone touching her, Gabriel and Ace were my brothers, and it meant a lot that she had taken care of him, though it was troubling to think about where might have learned that. She clearly wasn't a nurse, as she had said, and had tried telling me she had taken some courses. Who takes courses like that when studying psychology? The way she had said it too while looking away from me, told me everything I needed to know, but I wanted to hear her say it.

"What?" I asked when she had stared at me for a while without saying anything. "Not going to give me the same excuse again?"

She shook her head as if she had caught herself in a trance and cleared her throat.

"Do I need to kill someone?" I asked.

It was pretty clear that the knowledge she had of how to put a shoulder back in place, came from very personal experiences, and just the thought of someone hurting her, made me want to kill. It made me want to protect her and make sure, no one could ever hurt her again.

"Why would you?" she asked, almost scared and all wide-eyed.

"Someone hurt you, little wolf, that is not hard to tell."

She looked away, unable to look me in the eyes, and that again just said it all.

"Who?" I asked.

"Doesn't matter."

"So, someone close to you," I said.

She looked back at me confused, and I just leaned a little back on the couch.

"I took some psychology courses," I teased her, which just made her roll her eyes.

"Right, when you are that old, why wouldn't you have a hundred different degrees?" she mocked crossing her arms.

"How old do you think I am?" I asked.

"Old," she just answered.

That just made me smile a little, as I watched her. Her hair was still a bit wet from her bath, and her cheeks a little red. My shirt, which she was wearing, was like a dress on her, and I just wanted to see her in that or nothing at all. My clothes had never looked better on anyone else. It was hard to take my eyes off her, but I had to stay focused.
