Epilogue
For this promo tour, Liam's team had scheduled a round of interviews for late night talk shows. Today he was a guest on their favorite show in New York, and Ana had flown there to spend a few days together. She waited for him in the green room, watching him on the small screen for the live stream.
She didn't think she'd ever get tired of staring at him. He was easy on the eyes, for sure. Her lip curled at imagining his reaction, if he knew her current thoughts admiring his looks. He'd get those flirty eyes that used to worry her, only now she'd welcome them. She'd flirt right back.
The show's host directed the conversation. "You're here promoting your latest movie,Burnt Falcon. It's a thriller where you are a lawyer that gets involved with criminals against his will, and you end up having to do some dark things to get out of it alive."
"Yes. The story is really about pushing my character's morals to the limit. He has to ask himself the question, what am I really doing this for? And then we see him struggle with the answer."
"And it was fascinating to watch! That scene where you have to—"
"Don't spoil it for people!"
The audience laughed, ready to go wherever Liam took them with his charisma.
She was so, so lucky.
"Right, right," the host conceded. "Okay, let's say it's the scene in the woods."
"Sure."
"It broke me, man."
"This is going to sound weird, but… thank you."
"There are rumors you'll get a nomination for it."
"We'll see. It would be great but, as long as people enjoy it, I'll be happy."
"And recently you started a new project, right? Directed by Ana Lira, again, I understand?"
"Ana is directing me, yeah. It'll be a new thing for both of us. It's fiction, which is new for her, and being directed by someone so close to me…"
He didn't finish the sentence, but the sparkle in his eyes showed clear through the screen. She smirked and shook her head at the TV.
"It'll be interesting?" The host suggested.
"Yeah.Interesting. That's the word."
Everyone laughed again.
"Now, let's talk about that for a minute. There have been some reports saying that you and Ana have indeed gotten married and that you've been married for a while. Some people on the internet—" the host showed a picture of a Twitter thread— "are convinced that you and Ana Lira eloped. One of them found this." The host dropped the first picture, revealing a second one behind it: a picture of a marriage certificate, with the names of witnesses and parents blacked out but leaving Liam and Ana's name clearly visible.
He played with the ring on his pinky finger. She did the same with hers, which she wore on her index finger. They both wore simple bands permanently, with their wedding set worn occasionally.
Liam nodded at the picture. Ana wondered if he also thought of their wedding, like her, or if he only focused on how to handle the conversation. Ana had talked with Liam about what he planned to say; they had had a discussion with the show producers about how far this conversation could go. They had chosen to talk about this development for the first time on this show, and actually commenting on their relationship publicly was new for both of them.
"Did someone fake this?" the host joked.
Liam chuckled. "No. We did get married a few months ago."
"You eloped?!"
"If you want to call it that."
"Congratulations!" The audience applauded, and the band played a quick rendition of the wedding march.
