Damn, Damion thought. Zoey was on a roll.

This time, Damion had to hold Lisa’s entire body back. He’d never witnessed Zoey’s verbal wrath firsthand, but he had to admit, it was very impressive.

Somehow, Lisa managed to wiggle around him and got a strong grip on Zoey’s shirt and hair, but Zoey fought back and managed to shove Lisa a few steps away from them, though not before receiving a nasty scratch on her arm from the woman’s long nails.

Lisa’s swimsuit cover-up skewed to the side, sliding off her shoulder as she jerked back a few steps. Just as she steadied herself by the edge of the boat, a large smile crept onto her face. Seconds before Lisa made the move, Damion knew what the woman’s plan was. Sure enough, he watched in horror as she tipped backwards over the edge of the sailboat, her arms reaching out as if she’d changed her mind seconds too late or maybe it was just for show.

Lisa landed in the water with a loud splat. Both Zoey and he ran to the edge of the boat and watched her surface, her blond hair covering most of her face in a heap of tangled mess just before the screams started.

“Shit,” Damion and Zoey said under their breaths at the same time.

“Damion, we have to call the police,” Zoey said before they raced to help her out of the water. She was still flailing around, as if for show, even though the ladder on the dock was less than five feet away from her.

“Is she expecting me to jump in and save her?” he asked Zoey.

“I don’t know, but you’d better while I call Brett.” Zoey nudged him.

“Well shit.” He handed Zoey his phone and keys. Then he toed off his shoes. The water near the docks was only ten feet deep so he had to be careful as he jumped in.

When he wrapped his arms around Lisa, she shoved at him and fought him for a moment. Then she realized it was him and melted against his body. Her nails dug into his soaked shirt.

“Oh,” she said softly. “I thought it was that woman come to drown me.”

Damion didn’t say anything, just hauled her to the stairs and helped her out of the water. Aaron was now standing on the dock, and he helped Lisa out of the water.

“Oh, thank you,” Lisa sniffled.

Zoey handed Aaron a towel, who then handed it to Lisa.

“I came as fast as I could,” Aaron said to Damion as he climbed the ladder. “Brett’s on his way too.”

“I want this woman arrested,” Lisa said, pushing her wet tangled hair away from her face.

“If anything, you should be locked up. I’m bleeding and have the marks on my body to prove you attacked me.” Zoey held up her arm. A trickle of blood from the cut dripped down her forearm.

“Lies. She’s jealous of my wealth. She said so herself,” Lisa screeched.

Zoey chuckled and then sighed. “I said no such thing. I’m too tired for this bullshit.” She walked over to sit down on a bench a couple feet away. It was then that Damion noticed Zoey was looking very pale and sick. Instantly, he worried.

“Are you okay?” Damion asked her.

“No, I’m not okay,” Lisa started.

“I was asking Zoey,” he clarified, moving to kneel by Zoey. “Are you okay?” he asked again.

“Yes.” Zoey smiled at him. “Just…” She rolled her eyes. “Tired.” Her voice lowered. “I shouldn’t have baited her. Chalk it up to hormones.”

He smiled. “It was impressive, seeing you in action,” he said in a low enough voice that only Zoey could hear.

“Well?” Lisa said loudly. “Are you going to call the police and have her arrested or do I need to call my lawyer?”

“Enough. I think it’s time you and your husband left River Camps,” Zoey said, standing up suddenly.

When Damion saw her sway, he gripped her elbow, knowing Zoey wouldn’t want to show any weakness to the woman.

“As of this moment, you and your husband are no longer welcome on my property.” Zoey leaned a little more on Damion.

He didn’t like her coloring. She was paler than normal, and he could see that she was sweating more than she should have been.
