“What?”
“I really just want to go somewhere that’s not here.” I needed to her away from the house. She was too feisty and nosy.
“Jane may need me.” She sighed, resting her palm against her forehead.
Emir
“What?”
I pointed to my earpiece.10-6, I'm going to take Lily out for a bit.
Is she asking too much?
Precisely. 10-5
Will do. They're still in their meeting.
10-4
“Ready?”
She nodded, squinting with the slightest smirk. I helped her slip on her jacket. The moment she was finished zipping it, I rested my hand on the small of her back, leading her down one of the back staircases and out the back door to the garage where I had hidden my car.
She was stewing on the way to the bar. Pouting, she kept checking her phone. A part of me wondered if she was thinking about Tyler again. As if she could read my mind, she snickered. Reaching over, she rested her hand on my leg.
“I’m not worried about him. I’m just hoping Jane texts me when she’s done.” She did not pull her hand away. Her thumb drew small circles on my jeans.
Smirking, I lowered my arm, curling my fingers around the back of her hand. The rest of the ride was silent. We only broke physical contact when we reached Silver.
It was quiet tonight. There were only three other customers in the corner near the back. I guided her over to the bar. She perched on a stool.
“What can I get you, pretty lady?” Playfully, I nudged her.
“Between the Sheets.”
“Maybe after a few drinks.” I winked. “I told you I'm not easy.”
She giggled. “The drink?”
“If you say so.” I waved the bartender over.
“Good evening.” He placed two cocktail napkins on the bar.
“Can we get a Between the Sheets and a Double Vodka please.”
Smiling, he spun around, making our beverages.
“I know what you're doing.” She rolled her eyes, leaning her body into mine.
“And what's that?” I touched her lower back under her jacket.
She arched a brow. “Distracting me from the situation at the house.”
The bartender placed our cocktails down in front of us. We thanked him before he sped away, wiping down the other end of the bar. I twisted on the stool, facing her. My curiosity turned into a grin I could no longer hide.
“Is it working?”
“You clearly don't know how stubborn I can be.” She giggled.
