I glanced over at him. Sure enough, he was glaring directly at her. He hated her. He hated most people though, so I never took it personally.

“Yeah, follow me.” I led her through the house to the butler’s pantry, closing the door, shielding us from as much noise as possible.

“Why are you acting so numb, Giovanni?” She rested her hands on her hips.

“I'm not.” I slid my hands in my pockets.

“I know you better than anyone.” She stepped closer. “Take your glasses off.” She reached for my face.

I leaned my head out of the way, stopping her from touching my face. “What did you want to talk about?”

“I miss you so much lately.” Running her fingers through her curly, black hair, she tucked her bottom lip between her teeth.

“What?” I snorted. “Did Mike stop paying for your expensive habits?”

“He cheated on me.” She averted her gaze.

“Irony and karma.” Shrugging, I shook my head. “Are you forgetting you cheated on me with him?” I had since forgiven her for my own sanity’s sake, but it was the perfect response.

“Baby, I miss you so much.” She grabbed the edges of my designer suit jacket, kissing my tie as she unbuttoned my shirt.

“Okay you need to stop.” I clutched her wrists.

“Baby, I know you still love me.” She attempted to lift herself up to my lips. “Remember how hard I loved it when you fucked me?”

“Abrielle, stop.” I sighed, coaxing her away gently without being an asshole to the woman who just lost her son. “I've moved on. I need to leave.”

I marched out the other door, leaving it open, stopping in the hall mirror to button my shirt. Lipstick smears stained the tie and shirt. “Fuck.” I muttered, loosening my tie, and taking it off. As I rolled it up, I heard Abrielle speaking to someone in the pantry.

Your brother is a monster!

So are you, which is why he divorced you. It was Emilio. If I ever see you around again, I will kill you. He doesn't want you. Get over yourself.

What about you, sexy? You love to fuck people who don’t belong to you. My friend told me you fucked her while she was married.

You're high and ruining my mood. You need to go. He was about to lose his temper.

It’s my son’s funeral!

Having heard enough, I marched down the hall, through the foyer, out of my mother’s house. Speeding down the driveway, I gripped the steering wheel, shouting at the top of my lungs.

“Carmine!” Lily shouted my name as she rounded the corner in the kitchen, not seeing my phone was up to my ear. She clasped her palm over her mouth before perching on a barstool.

“One second.” I mouthed.

Tell him we can be there tonight at ten and please tell everyone I’m turning my earpiece off for a few minutes.

I dropped my phone inside my jacket pocket then crossed my arms over my chest, smirking.

“So sorry.” Her eyes widened.

“It’s okay.” I chuckled. “How are you feeling today?”

Exhaling, she shrugged. “Okay, I guess. So sick of being stuck in this house.”

“What did you have in mind?” Tilting my head, I lifted a hand to my chin.

“What?” She arched a brow, resting her hands on her hips.
