No harm could come to him. I cared deeply for the Rovati family. They were always so good to me. I would die for every one of them. Just as I was about to let him know the coast was clear, my phone vibrated loudly.

“Shit.” I grabbed it from my pocket, seeing a private number on the screen.

Mr. Rovati glared. “Who is it?”

Without replying, I answered.Hello?

The boss did not like that very much. “Are you shitting me right now?”

A quiet, deep voice whispered,I have a delivery for you.

What?I was utterly confused, but I recognized that voice from the videos Mr. Rovati played for me in the past.

I have the girl who belongs to Rovati. Meet me at the temple in fifty-three minutes. Marco isn’t with me. You need to hurry.

How do I know you're not lying?

The phone went dead.

“What the fuck was that?!” Mr. Rovati nudged my shoulder.

“Carmine is meeting you at the temple with Jane in fifty-three minutes and counting.”

“We have to hurry!” He started running for the car, but I grabbed his elbow which was against his rules.

He spun around, scowling at my hand. I dropped it to my side. “That's umm, the thing. Marco isn’t with them.”

He checked his phone. “Shit. Marco’s phone is still showing him upstairs.”

“What do you want me to do, boss?” I leaned on the wall, scanning the parking lot, anticipating his orders.

“Fuck.” He buried his head in his palm, taking a deep breath. “You go to the temple. Keep an eye out and confirm there’s no one else there. Make sure you get a visual on Jane. This could be a trap.” He rolled his bottom lip between his fingertips. “Do whatever you need to Carmine. I don't care anymore. Jane’s safety is my priority.” Sighing, he ran his fingers through his hair. “If I don’t take care of Marco, he may hurt her again. He might hurt all of us.”

I nodded, ready to follow his instructions, leaving immediately.

“Emir.”

I spun around on my heels.

“Do not underestimate him though. He's highly dangerous. My concern is Jane. He’s dead to me. Kill him and get her out of there!”

“Where do I take her?”

“Take her back to the house and call Dr. Maric. I want to have her examined.”

“And what about you?”

I was scared to leave him to handle his son on his own. I knew he could, and he was not to be underestimated. Mr. Rovati was the strongest person I knew. Still, I was concerned. There was no way he could be in two places at once.

“I'll be fine. I have to handle Marco and will head back right after.”

“Uh, sir?”

He cocked his head, gripping the handle of his pistol.

“Please, be careful.”

“You too, son.”
