“Nothing. I need to go get Caprice from school.”

“Can Angelo pick her up?” Luca sighed. “Or I can tell Julian or Nora to get her. J has to get Briana and Max anyway. May as well take her home too.”

“That’s fine. I’m just trying to have a quiet night with the kids tonight. Shit has been so crazy, and I just want them to feel normal.

“Their mom being a bitch again?” Nick took a deep breath.

“I don’t want to talk about her.” Sullen, I turned to Luca. “You guys need to tell me more. You’re both wasting my time.”

Luca returned his phone to his pocket. “Right. Julian is taking her home too.”

I nodded.

“So, the guy. He keeps saying random names. He's trying to throw us off, I think. He also said this is bigger than we think.”

I nodded. “Gio called me earlier and he was told the same thing by someone they captured there.”

“What do you think is happening exactly, Emil? You seem to be holding something in.”

Before I could reply, Luca shook his head. “Whoever took Jane is connected to the gala and that guy back there knows something.”

“The problem is finding out before something happens to Jane.” I rolled my eyes.

“You don’t like her.” Nick lifted his finger to his chin.

“He doesn’t like anybody.” Luca chuckled.

“I don't really know her.” I shrugged. “And I don't really like her. I just know there’s something off about her.” Crossing my arms, I glared off into an abyss. “Mark my words. The bitch is dangerous. But Gio likes her, so she ishisgirl.” I exhaled. “We have no choice but to protect her.” I turned to our men. “I guess it’s time to fill them in.”

At some point during the scuffle at the warehouse, I was knocked unconscious. This time I woke up on the cold, kitchen floor, in what appeared to be an abandoned home. The stench of mold and decay filled the air. I felt like I was bleeding from somewhere but couldn't figure out exactly where. I was still cold, exhausted, and hungry. I wanted to go home. At this point, I would rather have seen Giovanni.

“We should not have let the other girl get away.” One of the men complained loudly.

“She was not the focus, you idiot.”

“What if she talks?”

“Assassins don't talk.”

“What are we going to do with this girl?”

“We wait until Big Fish returns and he’ll decide.”

“Can I have a minute alone with her?” Carmine was here? I recognized his voice.

“Shut up, Carmine.”

“After he's done, I would like a minute alone with her too.”

“Sammy, shut up!”

“I would tear that—”

“Silence!” A loud voice bellowed behind me.

“Oh shit! Boss!”

“Leave us.” The evident boss ordered.
