She parted her lips.

“Would you like that?”

She turned away. “I. . .umm. . .I have to focus on getting my daughter back and that means all of my attention needs to be on the Boto Brothers.”

“We’ll focus on them in the morning. For now, there are other things we should focus on.”

She quirked her brows. “What other things?”

“I have questions.”

“What questions could you have? You’ve been on this earth longer than me.”

“Still, I’ve never seen anyone like you.” I ran my fingers through her silver dreadlocks. “Why is your hair silver?”

“My father’s hair is silver.”

“And is he a Yumboe fairy?”

“He is.”

“Never have I seen a Yumboe with silver hair.”

“Because the ones with royal blood rarely leave the confines of their kingdoms.”

“But you left.”

“I wasn’t supposed to.” She raised her hand and touched the hardness of my chest. Her fingers landed on a thick white scar near my stomach. “I thought incubi can heal everything.”

“Not Adae’s sword. I don’t know what it is made of but once it touched me, everything burned. I thought I’d died. When I woke up in his dungeon, I vowed that his sword would never touch me again.”

“And did it?”

“Never again.”

She traced the scar with her finger. “How are you always able to escape his dungeons?”

“I have no will to remain trapped.”

She slipped her hands up to my pecs.

My body hummed. “So, you’re royalty?”

“Not anymore.”

“Has your kingdom been dissolved?”

“No. My father—the king—kicked me out of our land.”

“Due to the vampire?”

“And my daughter.” Her bottom lip quivered. “When the vampires crept upon us during a moonlit feast, I was so captivated. Many of my cousins and friends raced away. I stayed.”

I imagined those evil creatures surrounding her, thirsty and greedy to put their fangs in her soft skin. “Did they bite you?”

She shook her head. “They came bearing gifts. Music that I’d never heard of. Sweets that I’d never tasted. Wine that made me giggle and float a few inches from the ground.”

I frowned. “And what did they want?”
