I opened my eyes. “Your scent taunts me.”
She blinked.
“Can you help me with that, Fatou?”
“How?”
“Take off your clothes.”
She frowned.
Those delectable breasts stretched her red dress, begging me to taste, lick, and fuck them.
“Where’s your husband?” I asked.
If he gets in my way I’ll kill him.
“What?” Her mouth dropped open. Her fangs disappeared back into her gums.
“Where is your husband?”
“Why?” She searched my face. “Do you know him?”
“No.” Still holding her against the wall, I snatched off the ugly wig and threw it across the room. “But I wonder what kind of man would have his wife pay off his debt and do it in such a dangerous way.”
“He’s not a man. He’s a vampire and not a very nice one either.” She sighed. “Let go of me. Please.”
“Will you stop throwing needles at me?”
“Yes.”
“A fairy cannot tell a direct lie or break a direct promise, though you all may often distort your words.”
“I won’t throw needles at you.”
I loosened my hand around her neck and reluctantly backed away.
“Why are you here?” She remained at the door, watching me as I sat on the bed.
The springs creaked. My jacket disappeared into thin air, exposing my bare chest. I leaned all the way back and balanced myself on my elbows.
Maybe my being farther away will calm her and me.
“I’m here because you smell better than any creature I’ve come into contact in with in over 150 years.”
She widened her eyes.
“Why did you lie to Adae?” I asked. “You told him that I wasn’t in the club.”
“He would want me to chase you forever.” She strolled over to the hotel room’s desk and leaned on it. The dress’s bottom rose and revealed the curve of her thighs.
I should have ripped that dress off of her when I had the chance.
My mouth watered.
Then, I had a sudden realization. “Hold on. You lied. So. . .fairies can lie? That can’t be right.”
“Slavic fairies can’t lie. African fairies can say whatever they want.” Her fingers toyed with the turquoise pen on her desk, rolling it back and forth.
