My life became an endless search for a new conquest that never went anywhere and only made me numb. The very act of searching for another human lover, only served to remind me of how alone I felt in this ever-changing world.

So, I shifted to violence and the thirst for blood.

I'd even fought in many wars—human and supernatural.

I'd even battled in the modern wars like World War I, II, and the Korean War. I fought in Vietnam as well. The boredom of empty miles of jungle and thoughtless sleeping faces was too much to bear. The faces of friends perished in battle and from old age constantly ran through my mind. Meanwhile, my scars and bruises have closed, my broken bones have healed, but the memories of the dead were always with me.

Why am I thinking about all of this?

I blinked and brought myself back to the moment.

Adae’s new weapon has not only come close to getting me, but. . .she’s shaken up my mind.

In the hallway, a group of women left the bathroom. There seemed to be a big commotion among them.

“Megan, you’re so full of shit.” One frowned. “You totally fucked Trevor.”

“I swear, I didn’t.”

“You did.”

“I didn’t. Why would you even think that, Sara?”

“I just feel it inside of me. It’s my. . .intuition.”

“Your intuition is wrong.”

“But, I trust my gut more than I trust you.”

I glared at them, wishing they would shut up.

The one named Megan locked her eyes with mine. Her lip quivered. She raised her hand to the back of her neck in a subconscious attempt to calm her racing heart. Her pale face turned red and splotchy.

The other women turned. Their lips trembled. In their eyes I could see their deepest fears and desires beating in time with their racing hearts. Their sexual desires—dark and primal—bubbled up in thick clouds of lust. My inner demon came alive, ready to devour them.

I pushed the need down.

As they came closer, they slowed their pace.

I attempted to mentally enter their simple brains.

Continue forward. You don’t see me.

Sometimes it worked on the weak-minded humans.

Thankfully, that’s what walked by me. In unison, they directed their views toward the front of the club and returned to their conversation.

“I swear, I didn’t fuck Trevor.”

“You totally did, Megan.”

“I didn’t.”

“Just tell me the truth.”

“I am!”

They disappeared around the corner.
