My flesh quivered. It didn’t do that much. Few things freaked me out, but last night had shifted my view point.

I turned to Faith. I didn’t like the way she stared at that thing through the window. Like the sculpture was about to move. Like he breathed. Like it was a real man in front of her. Like she’d gone fucking crazy overnight.

Like I’d lost my Faith forever.

Even with that wild glaze in those widening eyes and that mouth gaping open, she was gorgeous. That said a lot about how crazy I’d become over her. There were serious red flags dangling around her. For god’s sake, I’d witnessed her humping the snow. She’d taken the love of winter to an all-new high. I should’ve been out of here, but I couldn’t leave.

We stood in silence for several minutes as she watched the ice sculpture. It got to the point where I was waiting for him to move myself. And not one sane thought hit my head. I wanted the bastard to breathe so I could choke the life out of him.

If he loved her, then he wouldn’t have had her out there in the cold like that. Why not put her inside and make sure she doesn’t die out in the snow. You sick fuck. Do you even care about her? Wait. No. What am I saying? This thing isn’t alive. She’s making me crazy!

A maddening laugh left her lips.

I jumped.

She shook her head over and over.

“Faith?” I trembled.

She turned to me as if I’d just showed up. “I’m sorry. You should go, Daniel.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“No, I’m fine.” She left the dining room. “I’m just going to get this straight with Mom. Thank so much for getting me, but—”

“No, you don’t get to walk off without giving me an explanation.”

“Yes, I do.”

“No, you fucking don’t. We’ve known each other for too long. I’ve got your back. What the hell is happening to you?”

“Nothing.”

“What about these bags your mom gave us?”

We passed the huge wall covered in the map and headed into her kitchen.

“What do you want from me?” she asked. “I have no real answers.”

“Then tell me what you know.”

“I know that I’m crazy.” She flipped on the light, paused, and turned me way. “Wait. How did you end up being inside of my house?”

“I saw you outside last night.”

She froze.

“And. . .I figured I should take you inside, since you were. . .”

She closed her eyes.

“Since you were naked.”

She whispered, “When did you find me?”

“Late at night. Must’ve been around three or four in the morning. You were a few feet in front of your house in between the surrounding trees.”

She opened her eyes. “Why were you out there at that time?”
