I laughed. "Let me take care of this, and then I'll come home and you and I can make a plan."

"Do you at least even have prospects?"

I hated that word, prospects. "When you sayprospects, what do you mean?"

"I swear to God, Jasper Saint, you have to take this seriously."

"Relax, I am taking it seriously. It'll be fine. Okay?"

"It had better be. I'm not letting that monster take over our whole lives again. You know what happens when he’s in charge."

Our father was a tyrant who had tormented us. Him back in charge of the company was going to be bad for all three of us, me, Adrianna, and Trevor.

"I know and I’m on it. I swear to you, I will find a wife or die trying before the term is up. Okay?"

“Thank you, and goodbye, little brother.”

I hung up with my sister and stared at the interrogation room door.

This was it. I was going to take all my frustrations out on Connor Lohman. He was going to give me the information I needed. But I knew his type, and it was unlikely he would volunteer anything. I would have to apply pressure. A fuck ton of pressure. But I was more than happy to do whatever was necessary.

I was just stepping in the door of the interrogation room as Connor raised his head and smirked. "Please tell me you're the good cop."

"I'm sorry to disappoint you."

"All right. Well, I've had nothing but bad cops so far. The angry terse ones.”

I just lifted a brow, closely watching him.

Connor continued. "I also had the pretty-boy type who looked like he was having fun, at least."

Again, I said nothing.

"Ah, are you the silent one? Waiting for me to make a mistake? Waiting for me to say something I shouldn't?" He shrugged and sat back. "You can wait all you want. I'm not going to. I haven’t spilled in all these years, and I ain’t fucking spilling a word to you lot today. Besides you can’t hold me. I won’t be here long."

I took a deep breath, marched over to the table, and sat. He was handcuffed, but still, I didn’t trust the bastard. There were safety measures in place though, and a taser was underneath the table. One press and he would get a nice jolt. After some twat had almost gotten his hands on Saff, Gabe got extra worried and had the button installed in all the interrogation rooms. Because once was enough, even though the fucker who’d tried a move on Saffron got a bloody nose via an elbow to the face. That woman was fierce.

"At least tell me what you know aboutherdeath?"

I placed the file in front of him and opened up to the pictures of the bomb site. I kept my gaze on him, watching for tics, an overly calm demeanor, anything really. I watched for it all. Something to tell me what part he'd played in her death.

"I don't know what the fuck you’re on about. I don't know that bird."

"Yes, you do."

"No, I don't."

I flipped around one of the images. "Take a closer look, Connor. What do you know about her?”

This time, he winced. I knew which photo it was, as I’d stared at it a thousand times over these last three years. The charred remains of the woman I would have married.

"This isridiculous. I'm a billionaire. I didn't have anything to do with this, and I don’t fucking have to answer any of your questions."

"Yes, you do. I'm just looking for you to tell me the truth. Now, go on and tell me, what do you know?"

"You can ask me the same questions Saturday through Sunday. I'll give you the same response. I don't know the woman."

"Stop lying, Connor. You know how this goes. Just say a few words, and it'll be a lot easier for you."
