I groaned as I scowled at him. "You twat. Your love of gossip is unbecoming."
He laughed. "When did you get boring? Cause I’m certain your Friday night wasn’t as good as mine. Happy to report back all about mine. I went out with Felicia last night, and I have to tell you, she is very, very good at sucking—"
Adrianna clapped her hands over her ears. "Blah-blah-blah, Jesus Christ, you are so gross, Trevor. Jasper, tell him to shut up."
I rolled my eyes. "Give it a rest. Both of you. You're giving me a headache."
Adrianna sat on the edge of the table next to my seat. She slipped off her Louis Vuittons and rubbed her arches. "You are clearly distracted, baby brother. What’s wrong with you?"
"I'll call Mitch later to apologize."
"You’re doing no such thing. He doesn’t have to forgive you because you're the boss. But Trevor is on point. You are distracted. We need your attention. Are things still busy at Rogues?"
I frowned. "No, I'm just… I don't know."
Trevor grinned. "Adrianna, you're missing the point. He is very much into his new flat mate. You know, the one pretending she's going to marry him. This whole thing is supposed to be pretend, but he's gone and got feelings, don’t you see."
I scowled. "Must you, really?"
"What? I'm just laying it out how I see it. Am I wrong?"
I rubbed my temple. "None of your business, you slag." To which Trevor just leaned back in his wheelchair and laughed.
Sometimes they irritated me to no end. I loved them immensely, but goddamn."Can you two just stop with me, please?"
"Trouble in paradise so soon, old boy?"
Adrianna shot Trevor a look before she turned to me with concern in her eyes. “Are you sure, Jasper?”
“Oh Jesus. She's fine. All right you two? Everything is just peachy keen, okay? She's just at her friend's this weekend, and I don’t know. I just wanted to know if she's safe."
"You know she's safe. Security would have alerted you. So what's the real problem?"
"I don't know. I just have a weird feeling."
Adrianna glanced at me and asked sheepishly, "For once, is Trevor right? Do you have a crush on your fiancée?"
"Oh, for fuck's sake."
They both howled with laughter.
"You know, I never really did like either of you."
I shoved back from the table and then intentionally left my seat pulled out to make an obstacle for that twat Trevor.
"She's fit, obviously. And yes, she's beautiful. But it's fine. We just have to work out a couple of things."
Adrianna sat back, crossing her feet at the ankles and swinging them back and forth. "Okay, so obviously, I'm going to ask the question. Have you told her the truth yet?"
I crossed my arms as I sauntered to the window. "I'm not sure what you mean."
My sister rolled her eyes. "Mate, you have to tell her all of it."
"It doesn't matter. In a month's time I'll at least secure our position with the company, she’ll be safe and free to go on her way, and then there won't be anything to tell her."
Adrianna tossed her head back and laughed. "Sweetheart, you like her. I can tell you like her. Moreover, Father can tell you like her. So what's the problem? She likes you too. I can tell. I'm a woman. I know these things. I might find you immensely irritating, but she is fantastic, and seeing how she looks at you, makes it real."
That was just the problem. I wanted it to be too real. But there were things I had to do. Things that were unfinished.
