"It was fine. He just walked around the building a lot and put two other men on me for my afternoon classes.”

“He was supposed to give me a report today."

I nodded. "Yeah, an assessment of the security measures or something?"

"Something like that. He didn't bother you or anything like that, did he?"

I looked into his green eyes, trying to assess what Saint was hinting at, and he frowned back at me as I said suspiciously, “No, was he supposed to? Was it part of his job description to peeve me off?"

"No. I just know Rourke can be annoying sometimes."

"He was a perfect gentleman.”

Saint’s brow furrowed even more.

“Honestly, there’s no need for all this frowning at me. I mean, he kept flashing that fucking dimple of his everywhere, and it legitimately made all the ladies’ knickers melt in the entire building. Other than that, no problems."

He lifted a brow. "His smile melts knickers, does it?"

There was a kind of edge to his voice, and I studied him. That brief desire I’d seen in his eyes was back, and I wanted to melt under that look. Longing bubbled up inside me with the thought he might be jealous over someone like me.

He made it clear that’s not what this is.

Still, with a tease in my voice, I asked, "I thought Westin was your friend?"

"He is. But Rourke is too good-looking for his own damned good."

I lifted my brows in shock at his statement. "Is this jealousy, Jasper? That’s a little out of place in this relationship, don’t you think?"

That’s it, pretend. He’ll never notice your drooling that way.

He chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Just wanted to make sure he treated you well. If he was a right gentleman all day, then there’s no problem.”

I grinned at him. “Right gentleman, of course. No really, he was great. I'm just amused, at your attitude."

"Everything will be fine as long asyoudon't start noticing Rourke and his smile, Sprite. We’re getting married after all."

I had to laugh at that. "You're funny when you are a little green with jealousy, Mr. Saint.” I changed the subject. “So who will I be meeting at the engagement party?"

"Well, you’ve met Adrianna and Trevor already."

And I liked them immensely. "Will I meet your mum?"

His jaw went tight. “Mum’s gone.”

Shit. Way to step on that landmine. “I’m so sorry.”

His brows lifted. “Oh, she’s not dead. She just fucked off to live with a shaman in Bali. We see her at Christmastime.”

I blinked slowly as the relief washed through me. “Really? From your reaction, I honestly thought she was gone, Jasper.”

He grinned and winked. “Sorry. She’s fine. Just can’t stand to be on the same continent as my father.”

“Will he be there?”

“Like a bad penny.”

“But he doesn’t know this is fake between us?” I asked.
