I'd been waiting for this question. I knew there was a specific format that Saint wanted me to follow. Something he wanted me to say to antagonize the gossip mongers and get them talking immediately. I took a deep breath, lifted my chin, smiled at the girl, and said, "I'm Kaya Reynolds. I'm Jasper Saint’s fiancée."
Interestingly enough, nobody blinked. Had he already told people? Was it common knowledge and now I'd walked in here and everybody was going to be scrutinizing me?
But no one looked at me. No one paid me any mind as I was going to the elevator and escorted upstairs.
It was interesting seeing the glass and chrome of All Saints in the broad light of day. Well, the gray of day. Light drizzle did its best to annoy the cement and glass exterior of the building. It wasn't even real rain. It was somewhere between a mist and actual condensation.
Just enough to make my hair curl and make it look frizzy, but not enough to actually make all of it wet. Annoying.
In the elevator, the security guard who had escorted me hulked next to me like a giant. He looked Scottish. I don't even know why I said Scottish because he hadn't really spoken. His name was Thomas, and he had been called over to show me the way. But he looked like he would have a brogue. And if he had a full beard, I could picture him in a kilt.
I was shown to the twentieth floor, and he used a special passkey to make the back doors of the elevator open. I stumbled with surprise and turned to find myself across from the offices of Jasper Saint.
"Oh, okay. Thank you."
He gave me a terse nod and waited for me to exit. When I walked in, a pleasant looking brunette assistant waved me in. "You must be Kaya Reynolds."
"Yes. That's me."
"Everyone's in here waiting for you."
I blinked slowly. "Everyone?"
"Yes, for the meeting."
I racked my brain. Had Jasper said it was a meeting? He just said come by the office. There's paperwork to sign. He hadn't said anything about a meeting.
My shoulders immediately stiffened as I prepared myself to be ambushed.
The assistant knocked on the door, and when Jasper's voice rang out, she opened it and showed me the way in.
Jasper was in there with two women and a man in a wheelchair. The man in the wheelchair looked shockingly like Jasper. Same shit-eating grin. Not that Jasper spent a lot of time grinning at me, but I recognized it. I'd seen it the night of the auction. His eyes were more of a sea green, and his gaze perused me appreciatively. "Oh, well done, brother."
I smiled bemusedly at him. "Well, if I'm going to be assessed, I'd like to know who by."
The bloke threw his head back and laughed, clapping. "Oh, I do like her." He turned his attention to me. "I'm Trevor. Jasper's better-looking younger brother."
I went over and shook his hand, which was firm and strong. "Hi, I'm Kaya."
"I know."
"I guess the news is out."
He grinned. "I am delighted to have a new sister. This will be entertaining as hell."
I lifted my brow, unsure of what he meant by that.
One of the women stood. She was tall and willowy and stunning with a set of eyes that matched Jasper's. Her skin was that kind of alabaster tone that you read about in romance novels, the ones without any melanin in them. It was smooth and clear. And she had fine features. She was beautiful. But she didn't look much like Jasper except for the eyes. It was all topped with a widows peak and inky jet black hair that fell in that just blown out look over her shoulders. "I'm Adrianna. I'm Jasper's twin sister."
I lifted my brows. "Twins?"
"Oh yes, twins. Keep that in mind for any extracurricular activities. The twin bond is a real thing. You and I are going to get very close indeed.”
Jasper groaned. "Oh, for fuck’s sake, Adrianna. Stop fucking with her."
Adrianna laughed and then came over and wrapped me in a hug. "Sorry. I am fucking with you. Welcome to the family."
"Oh, okay."
