I’ll never get over the way he looks at me and our daughter, and I hope he feels the same about us. I hope our love for him fills him up as much as his does me.
Nicholle lets out another little shriek and begins wriggling in my arms as she spots something over my shoulder. When I turn and see what’s caught her eye, I put her down immediately so that she can run into Paisley’s awaiting arms.
Josh follows closely behind his now wife, and by the time he makes it down the sandbank, he’s pulling Nicholle from Paisley’s arms so that he can shower her in kisses.
They may not want kids of their own, but damn, they love our daughter hard.
Paisley joins in on the love fest, kissing one of Nicholle’s cheeks as Josh kisses the other, and the giggles coming from my girl make my heart swell.
As I watch on, Pax’s arm wraps around me from behind, and as he places his hand on my stomach, I chuckle at the irony.
What he doesn’t know is that under his palm, baby number two is busy growing inside me.
“And here come the newlyweds,” Pax calls over my shoulder, spotting Matt and Jagger approaching from our right.
They got married a little over two months ago now, and the amount of alcohol they served at their wedding is the direct cause of my morning sickness.
I watch as Nicholle spots them, too, and carries on the same way she did when she saw Josh and Paisley.
My heart fills as our friends surround her, love her, cherish her the way that Pax and I do.
Nicholle clings to Jagger as if she hasn’t seen him in months, when in reality, she saw him earlier this morning. All of us living on the same street means that most of the time, we’re together, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I melt back into my husband as his hold on me tightens, and he leans down to kiss my shoulder. “I think this one’s a boy.”
Furrowing my brows, I tilt my head to the side so that I can look up at him. “What?”
He gently rubs the spot on my stomach that his hand is still resting on and repeats himself. “I thinkthis oneis a boy.”
“How do you–”
“You think you’re the only one Lana visits from time to time, hmm?”
I look up at her bench and sigh as he finishes his sentence, giggle as he nips at my skin, and swoon as he adds, “I love you.”
I lift my arm and bend it so that my hand can rest on the back of his neck while we watch our little family play. “I love you.”
“Yeah?” he teases, running his nose along my jaw.
“Fuck yeah, since before I even knew what the words meant.”
THE END.
