Chapter 10
Kristi
I’m sitting in class, trying to listen to my professor, when Little Miss Annoying tries to get my attention.
“Psst,” Alana whispers in the middle of the professor’s speech.
Trying to ignore her, I shake my head at her so she shuts up.
“Psst,” she persists.
“What?” I mouth at her; can’t she see I’m trying to listen?
She passes me a note. I want to groan, seriously, what are we? Ten?
I unfold the note and read.
I have a guy I want you to meet. Please say yes, just one date. Please, please, please.
Is she serious right now?
If I say yes, will you leave me alone?
I fold it back up and hand it back to her.
Less than a minute later, she’s passing it back over to me and is all smiles. What did she have for breakfast? A bowl of sugar?
Of course, you say yes, I’ll leave you alone. And if you don’t like the guy, I’ll never set you up again. But if you say no, then I will bug you all day, every day until you give in.
Rubbing my temples, so I don’t scream at her, I calmly grab my pen and write back. You know I hate you, right? This guy better shit out rainbows, otherwise I will kill you.
I don’t give it back to her right away. I want to make her suffer. I can tell she’s getting antsy for the note because she keeps shifting in her seat, which makes me grin. As the class finishes up, I finally hand it back to her and rush off quickly.
Sure enough, she catches up with me and gives me an awkward hug. “Trust me, this guy is the best of the best. I think you will love him.” She lets go of me and smiles. “I will text you later with details. Maybe the first date can be a double date? Or a triple date then we can invite Emma and Seth too.”
“Okay, stop, just stop right there. I’m cool with a group date, that’s fine, but please shut up. Just text me details, and whatever. I’m not wearing anything fancy, so think about that as you make these plans. I’ll chat later.”
I don’t know how I got roped into being her friend, I swear to God the chick drives me nuts. She’s growing on me, though. I don’t know why I even said yes to this date. I don’t want to date. The thought of dating someone right now makes me feel as if I’m breaking out in hives. What if this guy knows about my slut history? What if he has a tiny dick? I can’t do this.
I go to turn back around to find Alana and notice she hasn’t moved from the spot I left her in.
She crosses her arms and glares at me. “Stop getting freaked out. You are not changing your mind. You are going. And that’s final!” She stomps her right foot and quickly rushes off.
Well then.
Bryce
I finish going over the construction bids that Emma arranged for me, and I decide on the somewhat pricier one. Only because I’ve researched the company and they seem better than the rest.
“Babe!” Alana shouts as she skips into the shop. “Good news, I have it all set up with Kristi. I had to pressure her of course, but she finally agreed. We’re going to do a big, group-date-type thing. A neutral setting, just a getting to know you sort of date.”
We’re really doing this. Shit.
“Group date sounds good. But what about you?”
She waves her hand. “Don’t worry about me, Seth’s brother, Matt, will be my ‘date.’”
“You’re going on a date with another guy?”
